Good quote, and I didn't remember it.
It fits very well with the topic, because I seem to recall that the Jedi Religion in one of the northern European countries started as a trick by some people to get a tax deduction.
Then it happened that people started taking it seriously. I don't remember exactly which country this was in, but I read it a while ago... anyway, the money-motivation thing may be very true.

Yes, in UK and Wales according to national census 2001 390.000 people declared "Jedi" as their religion which made it the 4th largest "religion" in those countries that year.
Let me also elaborate a bit more about the quote of Hubbard as there is a continuation which is pretty interesting I think.
Part one - The Gossip: Another writer Kurt Vonnegut said to Hubbard that yes maybe he is right but it's not possible to create a religion in modern times (it was early 50s of 20th century). Hubbard claimed contrary that it's fairly easy to do it. The conversation between those two gentlemen ended in a 5usd bet. Vonnegut lost. That's the rumor.
Part two - The Fact: On February 18, 1954, the Church of Scientology was officially incorporated in Los Angeles, California, by L. Ron Hubbard.
Thanks by info.
