RE: If You Could See The Future, What Would Do Differently?

Happy New Year 2025 to you too!
The idea of accurately predicting the future is the dream of science fiction, but also the dream of many strategists, planners, and managers.
I suppose that one of the problems of there being a machine that could actually predict any of the futures, is that we could fall into the issue of the ‘Self-fulfilling Prophecy’, in which a person who ‘knows’ an event that is going to occur, will always work in the direction necessary for that event to occur.
That is a danger, because the sense of free will could be lost, and we could fall into a fatalistic mechanism.
I have always thought that the future is very variable, so if something told me what the future was, it is very likely that that future would already begin to change, because I would know something that I should not have known, and that would introduce new variables into the development of my present, which would give a possible different future.

This makes a lot of sense.

It reminds me of a concept in science where observing an event is said to alter the event itself. it is called the Observer effect.
The observer effect is a phenomenon observed in various scientific fields, particularly in quantum mechanics and the social sciences.

In quantum mechanics, the observer effect occurs when the act of observation changes the behavior of the observed system.

For example, in the double-slit experiment, particles like electrons exhibit wave-like behavior and create an interference pattern when they are not observed.

However, when observed, they behave as particles and do not create an interference pattern. This change in behavior is due to the interaction between the observer and the observed system, such as the detection of which slit the electron passes through.

In social sciences, the observer effect refers to how people’s behavior can change when they are aware of being watched.

For instance, soldiers may perform better during an announced inspection compared to a surprise inspection, as they are more prepared and motivated when they know they are being observed.
