Name Your Car Day + Día de Ponerle Nombre a tu Carro [Eng+Spa]

Hello all world. It's a rainy day, so just a moment ago the power came back on, I have to hurry up to publish the day's log before the next unscheduled outage comes. Anyway, my #life today has been relatively slow, after all, there are many things that are left undone due to not having electricity or internet. Still, I'm not going to complain too much, at least I'm better off than several million people in my own country.

Better let's move on to something more fun to share, that's what the post is titled. This September 2nd, a strange date is celebrated in the anniversaries of #History, it has to do with #cars, and although I searched for a while for the origin and evolution of this celebration, I really didn't find much to comment on, but this celebration I found it so strange that I decided to share it. It's 'Name Your Car Day'.

Hola, gente. Estoy en un día de lluvias, así que apenas hace un momento es que regresó el servicio eléctrico, tengo que apurarme a publicar el registro del día antes de que venga el siguiente corte no programado. En fin, que mi #vida hoy ha sido relativamente lenta, después de todo, hay muchas cosas que se dejan de hacer por no tener ni electricidad ni internet. Aun así, no me voy a quejar mucho, por lo menos estoy mejor que varios millones de personas en mi propio país.

Mejor pasemos a algo más divertido para compartir, se trata da título al post. Este 2 de septiembre se celebra una fecha rara en las efemérides de la #Historia, tiene que ver con #carros, y aunque busqué por un rato el origen y la evolución de esta celebración, en verdad que no hallé mucho que comentar, pero esta celebración yo la encontré tan rara que decidí compartirla. Es el ‘Día de Ponerle Nombre a tu Carro’.

I was thinking that at home we tend to give names to cars, computers, and even other inanimate things. It's a family trend, it's like giving an object a nickname. In a way, it's a thing of humanizing an object, it's like the effect of seeing a 'face' on the front of a #car. It's very common, and I didn't find it unusual, but I didn't expect this to have its own day of celebration on the calendar.

Estaba pensando que en casa tenemos la tendencia de darle nombres a los carros, a las computadoras, e incluso a otras cosas inanimadas. Es una tendencia familiar, es como darle un apodo de cariño a un objeto. En cierta manera, es una cosa de humanizar un objeto, es como el efecto de ver un ‘rostro’ en la parte frontal de un #carro. Es algo muy común y no me pareció raro, pero no esperaba que esto tuviera su propio día de celebración en el calendario.

I thought about several cases of people giving names to their cars, but I also remembered that in several movies there are cars with names... I don't know what kind of circumstance made me remember, especially, a certain #movie that I saw three decades ago and had to include it in this post. This is 'Christine' (1983), an American horror film that brought to cinema an adaptation of a novel by Stephen King. The #book was successful, and certainly the #film also turned out to be very successful.

Pensé en varios casos de gente que da nombre a sus carros, pero también recordé que en varias películas hay carros con nombres… no sé qué clase de circunstancia hizo que me acordara, en especial, de cierta película que vi hace tres décadas y tenía que incluirla en este post. Se trata de ‘Christine’ (1983), una película norteamericana de terror que llevó al #cine una adaptación de una novela de Stephen King. El #libro fue exitoso, y ciertamente que la #pelicula también resultó ser muy exitosa.

A matter of memories, I'm not very fond of horror, but there are some films of this genre that I like. We'd better get back to the issue of names, because I've already gotten too distracted from the topic. As I said before, I think it's quite common for us to give names to cars, and when searching for data I read that there is a psychology study that says that 25% of car owners usually give their cars names, so it's not that bad.

Well, if you have a car, and you haven't named it, you might as well do so as part of the day's celebration. I say goodbye now, wishing you that you are well and that we can read again another time.

Cuestión de recuerdos, no soy muy dado al terror, pero hay algunas películas de este género que me gustan. Mejor regresamos al asunto de los nombres, porque ya me distraje mucho del tema. Como dije antes, creo que es bastante común que le demos nombres a los carros, y al buscar datos leí que hay un estudio de sicología que dice que el 25% de los propietarios de carros suelen darles nombres, así que no está tan mal.

Bien, si tienes un carro y no le has dado nombre, bien podrías hacerlo como parte de la celebración del día. Ya me despido, deseándote que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer de nuevo en otra oportunidad.

Recuerdo a mi querida Carlota, qué tantos años me acompaño y a carros nombrados de algunas películas, que ya no son tan recordados. Es una costumbre peculiar, el darle nombres a los carros. No imagine que tendría un día dedicado.
