Croissant Day + Día de Croissant [Eng+Spa]
It is the night of Tuesday, January 30, already in the final stretch of the month. It's been a pretty slow day for my #life, but I like having these kinds of calm work days. I'm feeling better from the late nights a few days ago. It amazes me a little that losing a few hours of sleep for several days would leave me so 'beaten', but when I look in the mirror that my beard is almost white with gray, I accept that it's all a matter of the calendar.
Anyway, there is nothing more to point out for now on my personal issues. Better let's comment on the anniversary of #History for today, it is a celebration of the area of #food, and it is certainly a #bread (Austrian by birth, but French by diffusion) that I find interesting. It's 'Croissant Day'.

Es la noche del martes, 30 de enero, ya en la recta final del mes. Ha sido un día bastante lento para mi #vida, pero me agrada tener esta clase de días de trabajo calmado. Me estoy sintiendo mejor de las noches de trasnocho de hace unos días. Me asombra un poco que perder unas horas de sueño por varios días me dejara tan ‘golpeado’, pero al mirar en el espejo que tengo la barba casi blanca de canas, acepto que todo es cuestión de calendario.
En fin, que no hay más que señalar por ahora en mis temas personales. Mejor pasemos a comentar sobre la efeméride de la #Historia para el día de hoy, se trata de una celebración del área de la #comida, y ciertamente es un #pan (Austriaco por nacimiento, pero francés por difusión) que me parece interesante. Es el ‘Día de Croissant’.

The origin of this bread seems to date back to the 17th century, when Turkish military forces were preparing to invade the city of Vienna. And the movement generated noises that were accidentally discovered by bakers who were awake since dawn to start their work. These people gave notice of the imminent attack and that helped the defense of the city. In recognition of this act, Emperor Leopold I awarded them a decoration. And the bakers came up with the idea of making bread in the shape of the crescent of the enemy's flag, as a mockery, and also as a way of 'taking a bite' from the pride of the invaders. Initially, they called it "Halbmond" (half moon, in German)

Sin embargo, este pan no es como el que conocemos en la actualidad, fue en 1920 que los chefs franceses lo elaboraron con hojaldre, y esa es la versión que tenemos en la actualidad. Además, este pan ha presentado variaciones, en las que se le usa como base para emparedados, en las que se le rellena con nutela, mermeladas o chocolate. En fin, que hay para escoger, incluso hay Croissants que no tienen forma de medialuna.
En lo personal, me gusta su versión dulce, particularmente la que está rellena de chocolate. Pero, es cuestión de gustos. Bien, ya me despido, deseándote que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer de nuevo en otra oportunidad.

That's a pretty interesting history behind croissants 🥐. How true is that?
My wife and kid love croissants, the chocolate ones. I usually try to avoid it. Often end up taking a few bites.

At least, the invasion of the territory of what is now Austria, by the Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha, and the siege of the city of Vienna (1683), are things well recorded by various historical sources.
Also documented by both sides is the defeat of the Ottoman army, which cost the Grand Vizier his head. What I'm not clear about is the point of the bakers' warning… It's possible, but I'm not sure.
It reminds me of a very old story from Rome. Which is said to have once survived a surprise attack due to the scandal created by a flock of Geese who were alerted by deaf men who were advancing silently through the fields to approach.
Thus, it would not be the first time that early detection of the threat constitutes a great contribution to the battle.

Ese problema de tener las manos ocupadas y necesitar de otra extremidad para sostener el pan… me ha pasado, y es peor cuando tiene alguna crema o mermelada como relleno y corro el riesgo de que se derrame.
