Development in the Health Sector
Greetings, everyone!
The health sector in Nigeria is a little bit moderate but it needs a lot of growth, development and Innovation. Strike action can have serious implications on patients because it can delay treatment, reduce access to care, and lives may be lost in the process. Strikes often happen when there is an unpaid allowance, a lack of medical equipment, and too much overworking. While it makes a difference, it depends on how the government responds to the call. However, promises are made, strikes are called off, and the agreements are not implemented. Yes, it will be worth it if the government finally pays attention to the sector, so that things can be put in place for doctors, nurses, and patients to be in a good position.
How bad is it for doctors, nurses, and patients?
For the medical doctors, it will be bad when there is no quality equipment for treating patients in the hospital, especially when under emergency or urgent attention, and in the end, it may lead to the loss of lives, which is not proper. The government should pay more attention to equipping materials for quality treatment and another thing is that when doctors are not paid, they might find it difficult to attend to the patient because they are not encouraged to do the work. This is weightier because the patient's life is at stake. However, some nurses working in the hospital are student nurses and they need to have hands-on experience with the use of equipment and learning from doctors and senior nurses, so without these things, they might not be as effective as they should be with the experience or being an expert in some things. Patients who are in the hospital, where doctors and nurses are on strike, would encounter danger, severe pain, or may lose their lives due to the absence of doctors.
Will a strike action make a difference?
It might cause any change, or it might not. If the government is not ready or in support of the health sector in Nigeria, and such a sector is dangerous and at risk, then a sick person is at risk if they are taken there for treatment.
I have gone to the teaching hospital at my place, and patients were rushed inside the hospital for emergency attention, and unfortunately, the equipment wasn't available for the doctors to use. They had to rush them to another hospital and while on the way, they gave up their ghost.
Our health sectors need innovation, new equipment, allowances to the doctors, and many more to revive lives. Drugs should be used for their specific purposes.
We all know how bad it will be for medical practitioners to go on strike, a lot of things in the health sector will go wrong. For this not to happen, the government should do something about it. Let change begin, let lives be saved, let improvement, and equipment be.

Strike would have effect on a government with a conscience. Gone are those days when our leaders are terrified of protest or strikes, now they use all kinds of violence and threat to force public workers back to work.
