ARE LIBRARIES STILL RELEVANT IN THIS DIGITAL AGE?

Greetings, friends!

To start with, a library is a place where traditional books and digital books, documents, information, and other resources are stored, collected, and made available for research work and learning in schools and business centers. We have different types of libraries: School libraries, public libraries, and digital libraries.

However, out of my experience as a student, I have had the privilege of accessing our school library to conduct research in my area of discipline. In my year 1, the library was stocked and well organized with only traditional books, there was no digital format at all. I entered and began research work on an assignment that was to be given to us. It took us time, though, but we finally got what we wanted. I don’t know if the library is still intact the way it was or if there is a transition now. No idea because I have not been there for a long time. The library is a beautiful place for students and other people who want to acquire knowledge and get to know more about particular information in life, school, and business.
According to the featured contest question, “Are libraries still needed in this digital age”?
My response to this question is, ‘yes’. Libraries are still needed in this digital age because not everyone will have access to the internet, providing free access to books, academic journals, and other information needed traditionally. Not everyone is technologically inclined, and not everyone can do research as it supposed to be done to get the appropriate information or data needed. This afternoon, I asked my neighbor where she was doing her project and seminar, and she said at school. In my mind, are you still going to the library for traditional books? I know during research, you will go for field work to obtain data to write your research. I was wondering why she went to the library for her research. She has internet access.

My second yes is because not everyone will have the money to spend for their digital research work, providing a conducive and resourceful environment for proficiency and free use of Wi-Fi or data.

During my research and seminar, I collected information from the Internet without going to the library for traditional books. My seminar and project were from the Internet. Thank God for my boss who helped me and showed me the way forward on how to do research. This was possible on my side because I had internet access. My work was organized in my computer system and printed out in my father’s printer.
Nevertheless, some traditional libraries would be transformed to the modern standard way due to the technological system of the world. For instance, our school library transitioned to a computer system everywhere in the library for students to operate and conduct research work for themselves. Modern libraries shouldn’t fold traditional libraries away, but they should be for the purpose of others who do not have access to the modern facilities.

Thank you for reading through.

I have no doubt that libraries are fundamental to conserve access to knowledge, for all those people who cannot have access to the Internet or to acquire a book, in addition to providing the experience of smelling and touching books, which cannot be seen in a digital device.

Yeah, for the people who haven't gained in touch with the internet.
