Yay! We saw a dwarf gecko drinking water.
At least that was what we thought that he was doing.

A happy Friday to all and come put your detective caps on to see what the gecko was doing at the water bowl.
Things are not always what they appear to be, but I will tell you two short stories in here. The one is total logic, and the other one flips the can upside down. I was sitting on a chair in our front garden near the water bowl, and as my wife brought me a mug of coffee, she said to me, "Watch, there is a gecko spying the water bowl". So, I focused my camera on him, and we saw the gecko drinking water from the water bowl. Nothing wrong with this, and it's a first for us to see a gecko drinking water out of this bowl. But yes, there was something different and that is in the second part of the story below.
So, come and see.
This was how it started, as the dwarf gecko lizard peeped at the water bowl.
Then he was on his way down.
Ah! Fresh, cold water in the summer heat. What a luck! At least that's what I thought he thought:)
Just look at that! A gecko drinking from the water bowl.
But not so, as there was something else going on.
This is the second part of the story, and I thought here that the gecko was leaving after taking a drink.
But he turned around for another sip of water.
Nah! Not so. He was not drinking water, so what was he doing? There was a little bug floating on the surface of the water, and the gecko was trying to grab it. But it was not in his reach.
And so, the truth is, that we never saw the gecko drinking from the water bowl, as he tried twice to grab the little bug but it was too far away from him, so finally he left the scene.
Now how's that? At first, we really thought that the gecko was drinking water, until I downloaded the shots from my camera on to my PC, and I saw what was really going on. The answer is simple, as the gecko was after a bug. Twice the bug floated tantalizingly close to the side of the bowl, but then the wind blew it away again. Poor gecko, as we felt for him. I think the little bug had already drowned, but the gecko wouldn't have minded, as had he captured the bug, he would eat it dead or alive.
Such is life in the gecko world.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Wow, at first I really thought the gecko was drinking too! 😂 What a plot twist when you found out he was actually after the little bug. Poor guy tried twice. Loved the shots and how the photos revealed the real story. Thanks for sharing this cute moment!
Ha, always a twist in the tale with the wildlife over here, and it teaches us discernment. Glad that you liked the post :)

nice catch they can be pretty quick , if you put some rocks in the water you might also get drinking bees
Drinking bees are scarce here because of the wasps that hunt them.

The plot twist we (and you) did not expect. That gecko has a cunning way to mislead us but he is too cute to be judged. The narration is awesome, following clearly what that little creature was doing and boom, gave us a revelation. Things are not always what they seem. I did not miss that idea while reading. And everyone should understand that first impression is not always reliable. Judgement requires deep observation and critical thinking. Or else it would give you a gecko, trying to trick you in a water bowl. Haha😅
This was exactly what I tried to convey with the narrative, as the saying that there are always two sides to a coin is very apt here.
Judgement requires deep observation and critical thinking.
I call it discernment, and it's very rare these days, as so many act before they think.
A nice joke about the gecko :)
