Wet behind the ears.
I wonder if the saying (wet behind the ears) was not coined from the squirrels, as the youngsters are white behind their ears.
When it is said that a person is still wet behind the ears, it simply means that the person is inexperienced, or naive. For instance, a new learner pilot will be too wet behind the ears, to pilot a big airplane alone.
That reminds me of the young drivers that are still learners driving in their cars with a big red letter "L" on the car's back windscreen. A licenced person must accompany the learner.
But although the squirrel youngsters have white lines behind their ears, signaling that they are youngsters, they are definitely not inexperienced, as they can do everything that the adults can do on instinct. From day one these little critters can start arguing with each other, especially when there is food on the table (garden). They have even learned not to bury the avocado skins, and only to bury the nuts and the acorns.
It heard something behind it, and spun around to see who it was.
Ah! A smaller sibling, and one would have expected the squirrel to chase the small one away.
But not so, as they kept on feeding together. Had it been a bigger one, then a very fast chase would take place.
Such a little cutie.
Been a long week, and I don't know about all of you, but we are bone tired due to a very busy week. We even cancelled a birthday party invitation last night and just stayed at home. Times are tough here, and it seems to be getting tougher every day. Thankfully, we have the little pleasant incidences that brighten our day, such as the little squirrels' feeding periods.
We also have a pair of little Laughing Doves eating here every day, and a bigger pair of Ring-neck Doves noticed that we feed the little ones, so they have decided to try and build a nest in the strawberry guava tree outside our study window. But I keep on chasing them, as if they nest here then they will regard it as their territory and chase the little doves away. Life is a balance, and one has to try and stick to it.

Wow, what a beautiful picture my friend.
There's nothing quite as healing and restorative than nature. Last summer, when my wife was very ill and in a wheelchair, I would wheel her down to the neighborhood park. We'd spend hours feeding the squirrels. It got to the point where they recognized us and would eat from our hands. We began to realize each had their own unique personalities and were much brighter than we thought. All we had to do was whistle and dozens would come down out of the trees towards us. That was a magical summer, what turned out to be our last in the city.

A lovely video Eric, and just evidence of what I am always saying about nature. Squirrels are intelligent, and they know those that do not present a danger to them. Food is always a great substance to draw the residents of nature. We hope that your wife is much better now.
We named this lady "Squirry", and she lived in one of our garden trees at our old house. As soon as we got home, she would jump on our car's roof to wait for my wife to get out. Then she would jump over onto my wife to search in her pocket where she always had nuts. We did not tame her, as we believe that wildlife belongs to the wild.
Thank you! She's walking on her own now but still recovering. Travel will probably still be out of the question for a while yet. That Covid sure did reek havoc in ways we're still learning about.
That's amazing that the squirrel in your garden was so comfortable with you wife. I feel bad for those people who haven't experienced that kind of bond with nature. Shame man, Covid also tried it's best to get me, but the strange thing is that although I tested positive, my wife tested negative. So I only had a bit of it. Glad that your wife is recovering.
The sad thing is that after we moved out, the new owner had all of the trees in the garden cut down, and we can only hope and pray that squirry found a new home. So many people ignore nature, and they really don't know what they are missing. Nature is a fee gift to all of us, but some just don't care. Such is life my friend.
