Two sunbird species in here.

Juveniles all over the place now, and this one is a Malachite Sunbird.

The specie name of the Malachite Sunbird is Nectarinia famosa.

We have a great fondness of sunbirds, as I have posted them regularly in my blog, but then we also have a fondness for all wild birds. In nature they have a world of their own, and they also live in the freedom that their world grants them. All for free. Just imagine a life like that! No commitments, no financial needs, no rent, no worries, and you get food every day. All for free.

I digress as usual, but this above are the thoughts that cruise through my mind. I don't know where the world went wrong, but since the money god has stepped in our lives have gradually deteriorated. Nowadays so bad that the world has become toxic. People will do anything for money, even stab others in the back, but they don't realise that whatever they steal, will never last.
So, come let's rather look at the sunbirds.

And now, let me show you the young one.

This is a juvenile Southern Double-collared Sunbird (Cinnyris Chalybeus), and he can already sing their famous song.

Finally, another 2 shots below of the malachite sunbird.

It knew that I was near, but I was not a danger to it.

Just a lovely pose.

It feels like things are getting more desperate these days. Huge unemployment numbers, stress resulting in illnesses, and what not. My thought is that we should build foodbanks to feed the unemployed every day, and maybe the freedom of the birds could also be replicated if we do this. I am talking about the poorest of the poor and the dream would be to build shelters that can house everyone.

Not an impossible dream, as nothing is impossible, it is only going to take a lot of work and negotiations to get this going. Even the poorest of the poor have pride, and if not then restoring that pride will be a priority. I hate the thought of little children going to bed hungry, and it is forever working on my mind. Maybe we can do something about this soon.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

The greatest evil that mankind has ever created is money. Then again maybe before that it was the hoarding of food or lumber... It almost seems engrained in our genetics to be greedy. I agree, a society where we can provide for all and no child goes hungry is achievable. But the problem always comes down to the people in charge being greedy. Nothing is impossible and it should be achieved, the older and wiser we get the more we see the desperate need for this to work.

I absolutely love birds as well. That Southern double-collared sunbird is gorgeous, it it weren't South Africa I would think in was a hummingbird by appearance! The malachite sunbird is pretty as well, but funny how it hangs out in the shadows below the flowers!

Wouldn't the world be great with everything out there available for everyone for free? The birds do have it easy and a lot less complicated, as long as they avoid predators! Thanks for a thought provoking post!

Over here, we call it the big "WANT", as each of us have it in our genes. I read a study once that had a great example of this want. 5 little boys were told to sit in circle, and each little boy was handed some candy. As soon as some of the boys finished their candy, they started grabbing the candy of the other boys that was not finished yet. I think the boys were about 3 or 4 years old. So yeah, as we grow up, that want turns into greed, unless we can find a way to control it.

Many mistake the sunbird for a hummingbird, until they hear the sunbird's song. A bit more confusing is that the Southern double collared sunbird can also hover very much the same as a hummingbird does. The malachite was sticking its straw shaped tongue into the hanging bulbs of the flowers to sip its nectar. So, she had to do it from the bottom open ends of the flowers.

Yeah, getting everything for free is just a fantasy, as it can never happen. The lesson for me was just to continue with my simple lifestyle.
