Squirrels like Fridays...

...simply because they know that we go and collect acorns for them on Fridays.

Squirrels are intelligent and as soon as someone establishes a habit, they capitalize on it by watching closely.

At our previous home, we had a half tame squirrel, and we gave her the name of Squirry. She got so used to us that she adopted my wife, and I have placed many posts about her about five years ago or so. She also taught us a lot about squirrels. As soon as we arrive in our car at home, she would jump on the roof of the car and wait for my wife to emerge. Then she would jump on my wife's shoulder, crawl down to search in her jacket pockets for nuts. Once she had found a nut, she would hang upside down on my wife's shoulder or back and eat the nut right there.

They have now discovered our water bowl, meant for the birds.

Zac, she said, can we please have some more nuts, as you can see my teats and you know that I have babies to feed.

In the meantime, I use this as a line break and Robbie and his girlfriend were still playing games.

Two photos below to show you how squirrels love avocado.

.
We were so glad to see this below.

A moment of peace, as usually they chase each other away to protect the nuts.
008.JPG

We don't know if it is her husband or a child, but this was strange as she didn't chase him.
005.JPG

Look at that, look how she keeps an eye on him.
006.JPG

Now she said, Hey, I'm watching you. Don't dare come any closer.
007.JPG

Fortunately, he didn't come any closer and they sat eating in peace. Let me tell you that we don't often see this, as normally there are squeals and screams when they attack and chase any other squirrel that comes near their nuts. If you think only humans have habits, then you make a mistake as most of the animals can also have habits. For instance, they will go and eat at only one restaurant repeatedly. They sleep in the same bed in the same tree. They wash themselves and go through cycles of giving birth and rearing youngsters. They also teach their kids how to find food and how to eat. Just some examples and I'm sure that you can think of many others.

A happy Friday to all and have a great weekend.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

That is a mommy, and you can see by her teats that she is breast feeding her babies. Glad that you liked her, as we also do.

Haha, you are absolutely correct milady, as they get fussy with me if we don't place their food exactly where they want it. That is so in order that the many others will not see it, but quite often they raid it.
