Squirrels can be very fussy.

Especially when it comes to their food. We laid a natural platter out for her, but see what she selects to eat.

Look at that. The yellow fruits behind her are faulty granadillas that dropped down from the bushes.

At the front are some acorns that my wife collected below the trees when we go for a walk in nature. Normally the squirrels collect the unripe granadilla fruits, to go and bury them somewhere. But not this little lady, as she was very hungry.
This was taken by me while I was standing in our small front garden.
So come and let me show you how fussy this little madam is.

The last photo is of a massive American Bulldog and he is an International champion.
There were 4 of them on a photoshoot, and I will soon do a post on them.

The squirrel entered through the fence, and she started sniffing around.

Somebody needs to tell me how a squirrel knows that a fruit is not ripe yet. She ignored the granadillas, and I was happy to see that she decided to go for an acorn.
120.JPG

Happiness is as she decided to eat the acorn.
121.JPG

But no, her face told me that the acorn was not good.
122.JPG

She dropped the nice big acorn, and then decided to rather eat one of the little acorns.
123.JPG

And finally, there she sat, eating the smaller acorns.
125.JPG

What a luck, as they were doing a professional photoshoot of the American Bulldogs, and we met all of the owners. A very friendly lot and they had no problem with me also taking photos of the dogs.

But I will reveal all about the dogs, most probably on Friday, so keep an eye out for it. Amazing critters.

That's it for today, and we were so glad to see that little squirrel. Nothing like our old house where we had 2 squirrel families living in our garden, but these little squirrels that come in from the river, are all seriously wild creatures.
But in saying this, the squirrel didn't mind me standing close to her, about 3 or 4 meters away. Should I move however, then she would take off like a rocket.
We are now in this house for a year and a half, and not for a lack of trying, the squirrels will not yet take food from my hand. Maybe one day, but then we will not be staying here anymore.
Such is life!

I hope that you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Haha! What a clever squirrel. I've read that protein stores a lot of products in the forest, but when it goes to look for them later, it forgets about half of the caches)))

True, and it's those caches that they forget, that turns into saplings that later grow into new trees.

Squirrel is far better off not befriending anyone, not only the treats I think they do miss those they come/rely on as well.

Cannot believe you have been in the home for a year and a half, feels like yesterday you were on the apple farm, 'siren home' in between, now talk of another?

Oh yeah, we don't get them peanuts anymore, and now it's only their natural food.

I think I heard somebody saying time flies :) Although this is a 2 bedroom house it has a big lounge that we hardly ever use, and the two gardens are small. So, we will keep a lookout for something smaller with a bigger garden, as I spend most of my time at home outside.

I've never heard of such a fruit - granadilla. What does it taste like?

Oh! Granadillas have a very nice tart, sour and sweet taste. They make cakes, ice creams and cool drinks with it. The pure juice is also very healthy.

She happens to be super clever 😂😂
I always wished I had a squirrel or rabbit, I find them cute and entertaining.

I have seen a rabbit in person but I just happen to see squirrels online which is fascinating.

Naturally clever, as they are born with those instincts.

The only pet I have ever had is a dog, as we never keep wild animals or birds.
