Some lovely African sunset colors.

Our summer is really now in full swing, and the temperatures are rising as usual.

In my mind, one should be like a swallow in order to have the best of both worlds.

We have many European residents here in the Cape Province of South Africa, and the locals call them swallows. When it is winter in Europe, they fly down to stay for 6 months during our summer period, and when our winter arrives, they fly back to their own countries to stay for 6 months. So, they have summer all year round. Not in our case, as we just have to endure whatever Mother Nature throws at us all year round.

As you can see in the first picture, we arrived a little bit too late to catch the sun above that big yellow cloud, but not to worry as I could still get some lovely shots of it. The colors are amazing, and they always remind us about the beauty of our African sunsets. All quiet as night falls, and like a movie it all ends only leaving the images behind in our minds, very similar to a modern movie.
Come and see.

The sun touched the edge of a line of cloud below it.

Here is a closer shot of the picture above.

And still an even closer shot.

The last bit of sun to be seen, with magical colors above.

And then the sun dropped behind the cloud.

Not all over yet, as the three photos below appeared after the sunset.

We often see great snow pictures in other countries, and it looks fabulous as here we don't have snow in our area, only on the mountains. And not all of the mountains, mind you. This past Winter, for instance, we didn't have any snow, and so we can only imagine how it feels to put on a pair of skis and to slide over the snow. I think many youngsters here, know how it is to slide along as they all travel across the roads on their skateboards.

The only skiing that I can do is from our study to our bedroom:) But we are not the jealous types, and we never pine for things we cannot have. One of my favorite sayings is that "It is what it is". It is a simple but also a deep saying, as it teaches one acceptance. And once a person embraces the saying, then it leads to contentment. So, no rush after the wind in our book, and only to live day-by-day.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Wow, what an absolutely stunning sunset. This is the first time I've seen a sunset this beautiful, and you captured some incredibly detailed angles.

Thank you, and you certainly have great taste in art, as when I took the sunset shots it reminded me about the greatness and the beauty of our universe.

What a gorgeous sunset with so man reds, oranges, and yellows! That first shot is amazing, it looks like you are in open savannah. Really a pretty shot!

We have swallows too, but call them sunbirds. Many come down from Canada in winter and some come to southern California but many to Yuma, Arizona. I do know some people who live their summers in Wyoming and winters in Hawaii, but you have to be relatively wealthy to pull that one off! lol

Sorry to hear the snow hasn't been great the past year or two, it makes it hard to go skiing that's for sure. We've had more snow in the mountains here that we know what to to with in California. Unfortunately, my knees don't like skiing much anymore, too many years in the US Army and athletics. But we are all young and dumb once!

Thanks for sharing those great pictures, I always love a great sunrise or sunset!

Thank you, and yes, I also liked the first shot, and the colors all over of the other shots :)

I think that many countries in the northern hemisphere have swallows, or sunbirds such as you guys call them. It could be an expensive situation to maintain two houses, but South Africa is popular due to the weak Rand compared to the Dollar. At the moment it is R 16:67 to $1. So in our winter season, the houses are boarded up, and I suppose that they do the same in their winter season in order to have two summer seasons every year.

Not only for the past two years, as we have never had thick snowfall in the streets or city areas. Only on the mountains. I certainly know what you are talking about the army days, and although I participated in athletics occasionally, I boxed for 12 years. Too many bangs against the head, and a near fatal motorbike accident left me with a shorter left leg, and other long-time injuries.
But such is life, and I enjoyed it Lol.

It sounds like an inexpensive place to winter! The US is expensive and inflation hasn't helped ever since the pandemic...

Sorry to hear about the motorcycle accident, must have been bad. I've never ridden them as I've known too many people who were killed riding them. Glad you survived even if it did shorten a leg a little! The blows to the head couldn't be good for you though. Military service is rough on the body, I still feel the consequences every morning getting out of bed! lol

Oh yes, and we are snowed under with tourists.

That bike prang cost me three months in hospital, and two years in plaster. The leg is 25 millimeters shorter I wear a spacer inside my shoe. The knee is gone, and have to be replaced, but we don't have the funds for it, and so, I just continue as is. I have never done leopard crawling again, after my military service :)

Sorry to hear about that knee, it's got to be painful! Military crawls are never fun, I wouldn't even try these days. I also wouldn't try three to five second rushes ever again, those are hard on your body! It was fun at the time, but I was a much younger man back then! lol

I have learned over the years how to control pain in my mind. I completed my military service in 1972, which is a long time ago, and like you I also much younger back then.

I love watching sunsets, especially at the peak of the golden period, when they're round and their colors are so vibrant.

Great photo, thanks for sharing...
