RE: A dark day over here...

Just a pity that those are new non-heating halogen lamps. I think that the birds got used to the old globe lights, but the council decided to rather go with the new ones, as the old ones kept on blowing out, and then they needed replacements. The new ones don't have that problem, and it saves the council money.

Thank you kindly.

Oh that's such a shame for the poor birdies...

You know, I know that animals have been out in the freezing weather for tens of thousands of years and have all adapted to the conditions in their owns ways, but I still feel really sorry for them when they have to face weather extremes...we know that they do get cold and freeze to death, we know that they do get overheated, dehydrated and die and I know that that is just the natural world working it's own way, but I still feel sorry for them and wish there was more I could do to help them...

I see the animals in the paddocks over here in all kinds of weather and I fully believe that it should be mandatory for every single farmer in Australia to have sheds- just a roof for shelter in every single one of their paddocks.

just because they have adapted to weather, just because they're "used to it", doesn't mean that they actually like it or should have to live in those conditions without shelter....

Oh yes, it is so good to see that you also have a noble heart that cares for nature's residents, and it is very true that the animals have adapted to the weather patterns. It is only reasonable that all of us to care in our humane manner, but thankfully one has to also understand that that the wildlife is born with the instincts to protect itself against the vagaries of the weather. As an example, the young squirrels still babies when they came into our garden to feed, and amazingly now in their teenager years, they can manage anything. Even to eat in the rain.

Using its tail as an umbrella.

It is however the tame animals in the care of mankind that are seriously lacking, and even if laws exist to cater for their care, some simply ignore it, and just continue to mistreat them. We see many of those cases here where tame animals even need to be euthanized due to mistreatment.

Yes, I do agree and do understand that wild animals have adapted definitely, but when you see cows, sheep and other "livestock" animals out in the middle of the paddock in the weather extremes, like I said, They have adapted, but don't necessarily like it and I've seen farms where one paddock will have some form of shelter- be it trees or shed and the animals will always go to them freely, but yet the farm/paddock next door has no shelters so the animals are out in the open, so that tells me that they don't really like to be out in the weather.

And yes, domesticated animals suffer so much at the hands of human use and abuse and that's why I am spending a month in Thailand in September to do nothing but volunteer at Soi Dogs (and cats), just walking, bathing and hopefully helping with rescues there too.

Maybe one day I go to South Africa to volunteer with mistreated animals there too!

I totally agree with you in the case of domesticated animals, but we must be aware, that there are those that care, and then that don't give a damn. It is the same in our lives, and all that one can do is to try and change things.

Your trip to Thailand sounds great to me, and yes, with your good heart for mistreated animals, I hope that you will be very successful there.

You will be welcomed in South Africa, as we have many care agencies over here. Maybe you can walk the cheetahs. !LOL

Glad that you have a sense of humor, and no, I would not advise anyone to try and take a cheetah for a walk. !LOL
