Playing with a Grey Heron.

A tiring game, as I do all of the walking, and he does all of the flying.
029.jpg

The game is like this, I creep up on him, and then he flies over to the other side of the dam. Then I walk around and creep closer to him again, and then he flies back over the dam. Then I walk around, and ....
We repeated the game about four times, until he got tired of the game and flew away. So come and enjoy the game.

The grey heron (Ardea cinerea) is a long-legged wading bird of the heron family, Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia, and also parts of Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but some populations from the more northern parts migrate southwards in autumn. A bird of wetland areas, it can be seen around lakes, rivers, ponds, marshes and on the sea coast. It feeds mostly on aquatic creatures which it catches after standing stationary beside or in the water, or stalking its prey through the shallows.

Okay, so he flies over the dam to the other side.

And he lands on the other side.

I walk around, and carefully creep closer to him. This back and forth game took place about 3 or 4 times.

This was the last time as he concentrated on something he had seen, while I got closer behind him.

He's very awake, this guy, and he took off again to the other side.

Finally, that was it. I think he grew tired of the game, and decided to depart.

He did a circle above me, and then he was gone.

I didn't try to touch or to catch him, as we respect all wildlife and will hurt none of them. Although we have a large birdcage at home, the only time that we use it is when a bird is injured and needs some help. Then afterwards, when the bird is back to full strength again then we set the bird free. We have done this a few times, especially after the severe storms. From crows, to sparrows, and the sad thing is that sometimes the birds die as their injuries were too critical.
But this game, to me personally, was much better than a game on a mobile phone as it is real and enjoyable. It also makes a person to feel more a part of nature.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and story.

This game is fun and exciting for us photographers, while those don't like it will say that we are crazy people who play chase with wild animals. I once felt it when I chased insects in the wild.

People will be people and everyone think and says different things. I don't let the things that people say worry me, as I do the things my way. Besides, no harm was caused. !PIZZA
