Not an ordinary love affair...

... as this was a love affair in nature, so come and see.
107.jpg
So, this guy with the monster shadow was sitting in the sun, and unbeknownst to him there was a nubile young girl watching him.

A smile and some lizard facts. We were sitting in the sun in our small front garden, as it was the first warm and clear sunshine day that we have seen thus far now in our winter. There are many plants that we brought with us when we moved in here, and some are still in their original big pots. It makes it easier to load them before we move again. But enough about the garden, as I have a love affair for you to watch and then I will show the differences in size of these Cape Dwarf Geckos and ordinary house geckos.

This was the male gecko's pick-up line.
Wow darling, he said to her; your beautiful eyelashes makes you look like queen Cleopatra. So, what's your name my lovely? Coily she answered in a soft voice; my name is Cindy Geckolina. Well Cindy, he said, come and let's take a walk over there to the hot flowerpots, then you can tell me all about yourself. (But, he had something else in mind)
109.JPG

So I think Cindy also had something else in mind, as when they reached the flowerpots all talk went out the window.
152.JPG

He worked her over to the edge of the pot, whispering in her ear; Cindy, lets crawl over to get out of sight as there is a guy and his wife watching us.
155.JPG

And finally, they disappeared over the edge of the pot.
159.JPG

Now, I will firstly show you the difference between a dwarf gecko and a young cape skink.
084.JPG

As you can see, the young skink is already bigger than the dwarf geckos.
129.JPG

138.JPG

And here is another difference between a gecko and a skink. The gecko's feet are padded with suction caps so that they can climb anywhere, even on glass and upside down. But the skink cannot do that, because it doesn't have the suction caps on its feet. The Dwarf geckos can also change colors like their bigger cousins.
209.JPG

We have fifty species of geckos in South Africa, and currently, the dwarf geckos can only be found in the southern tip (Cape province) of South Africa.

The Cape dwarf gecko (Lygodactylus capensis)('lygodactylus' = 'flexible fingers') is a species of dwarf gecko found in the woodlands and forests of central and southern Africa. It also occurs commonly in towns and cities and is sometimes kept as a pet.

Length (snout to vent length) is 39 mm for males, 43 mm for females. Throat is stippled with grey or brown while the belly is cream coloured. The back is grey-brown with dark streak from snout to shoulder or beyond. Its tail is remarkable for having the underside covered in adhesive lamellae enabling its use as a fifth limb.

And below you can see the size differences between the dwarf geckos and normal geckos.

The common house gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus) is a gecko native to South and Southeast Asia as well as Near Oceania. It is also known as the Asian house gecko, Pacific house gecko, wall gecko, house lizard, tiktiki, chipkali[3] or moon lizard.

They grow to a length of between 7.5–15 cm (3–6 in), and live for about 7 years. These small geckos are non-venomous and not harmful to humans. Most medium-sized to large geckos are docile, but may bite if distressed, which can pierce skin.

So, we see a difference in sizes of dwarf geckos 39mm-43mm, and 7.5-15cm of the common house geckos. Other species of geckos can also be much bigger.

We wish all a great weekend.

I hope that you liked the pictures and that I could get a smile with the storyline.

Skinks here are most definitely completely different to House gecko in every which way possible here on the Eastern side of the country. Nice to see the difference in the dwarf gecko.

Happy Saturday enjoy the sun while it's out, Cape wet winter weather is living up to it's name this year.

Oh yeah, we are also now used to the Cape skinks with their interesting lines, as up north they are mostly grey. Dwarf geckos and dwarf chameleons are apparently only found in the Western Cape Area, and we were thrilled to meet them. Now we have the little geckos all over the walls in the sun every day.

Not a great Saturday evening, as the Boks lost the final against India by 7 runs. We are booked for rain this week, and the following week. Temperatures are up and down daily. But that's winter here for you.

Our skinks are relatively large with defined markings, then larger Agama lizard, pink gecko almost see through run around at night seek sunny spots in the day to warm up in hiding spots. Dwarf chameleon of our region we enjoyed in the garden many years ago, now little patches still found in certain places along the coast.

Warm here today at 28C again, did not watch the cricket sorry to hear they lost, your rainy season, Oh dear we it's to be expected !LOLZ

Oh yes, I have seen the KZN skinks and geckos, and even had some fun when a gecko fell off the ceiling of a cabin, right into an inspector's plate of food !LOLZ

KZN is famous for its warm winters, and the Cape is famous for its winter storms. They reckon that the next two weeks, things will get very wet here. But we are glad, as it fills the dams.

Geckos can be messy indoors, never chase them as they clear out the mozzies...

At lease weather forecast give good indication of what to expect, filling the dams always comes first. Have a great new month!

Oh yes, and we want to start a petition to supply the geckos inside with toilet paper, tiny little rolls for tiny little bums 😜 !LOLZ

Two wet weeks lie in wait here from Wednesday, and so it might be the same old floods and tears. Thankfully the river was cleared of obstacles, and it was widened, so, it will be able to handle the flow this time round.

Have fun with your petition. When the water comes man can only keep rivers clean and hope the water doesn't change it's direction.

!LOLZ I certainly will. The river thankfully continues to run this course over the centuries, and the only place where it changes direction is at the inflow at the beach.

Rivers often turn direction flowing out into sea due to currents, ours has done some amazing tricks over the years !LOLZ

Never build upon the sand comes to mind.....

A lady once told us that one year after a gigantic storm, the waves at high tide uncovered all of the hidden rocks that are normally covered by beach sand. They walked around picking up old coins all over the place, that must have come from some sunken ships !LOLZ

Shifting sands indeed....

After Spring Tides normally big change to seas, rocks peeking out you never knew existed sounds about right. Have not seen people searching beaches with detectors in many years.

Sea spits out some treasures that delight!

Here it is mostly the big storms that are responsible, as the fierce winds drive the waves so high that they slam into buildings. Had a time last year when some restaurants at the coast had huge damages. We still have people that work the beach with metal detectors.

For sure and many folks have scored over the years.

We encounter similar big storms or tidal movement, those who build for seafront views have to carry the can when things go wrong. Those who hit pot luck scouring the beaches do it for years seldom find much of anything, good luck to them when they do. !LOLZ

So many failed to consider future drastic changes in the weather patterns, and now they are paying the price of building on the border of the seafront.
Oh yes, and many regard their metal detectors as a hobby, especially the older souls, but we also saw some youngsters doing it with hopes of becoming rich. !LOLZ

Haha Zac, poor Cindy Geckolina had no chance against this charmer with ulterior motives :)
What a sweet love story😅

Our poor Geckos have all but disappeared, as they've fallen prey to Poe's bite! I hardly see my garden birds, they come and have a skittish bath, drink water, and fly away. At least he hasn't brought one of them inside the house for a while!

!LOL Lady Lizzie, that guy is certainly smooth with the charm, and little Cindy Geckolina stood no chance, but to dance with him 🤣

So, it sounds like Poe is a real hunter, and the birds are clever enough to avoid him, but the geckos stand no chance against him.
