Finally, we reached the top of the mountain pass.

Wonderful views with a magical twist of mist and landscapes.

That is the road to the new Du Toitskloof tunnel that we passed through on our way to Ceres, and now we returned on the old original pass.

And at the left of the picture, you can see the road of the old mountain pass that we were on upon our return. I can tell you, that on a sunny, clear day, the vistas here stretch on forever. But we were not so lucky, as we had only one little sun breakthrough, and it was concentrated on the lookout spot where we stopped to take the photos. To stand in total silence, whilst roaming the eyes across the landscapes, is an experience that I cannot describe. The beauty is incredible, and one can clearly see the forces of nature at work. One gets that poetic feeling, and thoughts such as, the mist dances across the land, course through one's mind. It was stunningly beautiful, and you will see what I mean below.

This was the lookout spot.

A monument was erected here for the 1500 Italian prisoners of war that helped to build the pass.

No, we don't have a 4x4 truck, as this little VW Polo takes us wherever we want to go.

Let's have a look now at the landscapes, and tell me below what you think of it.

And then the road back down was waiting for us.

These higher inland areas, are riddled with mountain passes, and we plan to investigate many of them. The mountains are millions of years old, and one can find extra special views. As an ex-biker, I think that it must be so great to cruise over the mountain passes, but now, as a senior citizen, I can only cruise along in our little Polo. The Cape has an abundance of nature. It really feels far more open and less hurried here in the Western Cape. Most of the other provinces are packed full of rushing around and too much busyness, with little balance between work and play. But the Cape holds a calmness and peace in its ancient hands, that allows us to better balance work and play, and to find some peace and calm in this world's madness and busyness. A real blessing to be here.

I hope you have enjoyed the pictures and story.
