Empowering non-profits in the rural areas of South Africa.

Papillon was invited to attend a non-profit skills training event in Paarl.

What they didn't tell me was that I was invited to open the show in Paarl.

So, we decided to leave a day before the scheduled event, and I showed you our travel in a post yesterday.
This event was a wonderful occasion, and we are glad that we attended, as it is always a good thing to see that communities are empowered with the proper skills training to drive their organizations to better things. Unfortunately, I cannot post any photos of the event as I forgot to ask permission to publish the photos.

It was wise to do the major traveling the day before, as here below we were on our way to the event, and we covered the distance to the event in 30 minutes.

A church hall was rented for the presentation to the leaders of non-profits in the area.

Some views of the roads on our way back home. We took a different road on the way back, that passed on the outskirts of Franschhoek, where we had some coffee at a cafe, and then we tackled the long road. I will show you below some beautiful views that we saw.

Beautiful trees as we entered the town called Franschhoek.

And then this section of roads runs through a settlement called Pniel.

And finally, we came into the home stretch.

A wonderful occasion, and the non-profit leaders were very happy, not only about them being taught new IT systems that will help their causes, but also for the fact that they will receive regular mentoring. Another bonus is that they will receive the licenses for all of the apps at huge discounts. The best way to help a person, is to teach them how to help themselves.

We love to travel and to explore other areas of the Western Cape province. Occasions like this when we can combine our travelling with some good work, makes things so much better. Note that we did not get paid anything, and the great thing is that none of the attendees at the presentation had to pay as it was all arranged for free. It was certainly a lovely outing and we are glad that everything worked out well.
Such is life sometimes.

I hope you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

I agree. What a nice activity you have. How nice of you to offer free training to a community. Truly, you're a good person.

Thank you, and training people with skills can stop the hand-out begging situation, and it also results in dignity restoration. We do what we can for the communities, and I am just an ordinary guy that cares for the poor.

You've captured the beauty of the Western Cape beautifully Zac, I need to take a trip down there and explore places like Franschoek, but Paarl would be on my list of go-to places. Stunning!
We need more organizations like Papillon Charity, you do wonderful work down there.

Ah! I really hope that you will visit before you turn 90 like your uncle Robert. You are still young enough, and I am sure that you have a good and trusted friend that can manage the BnB for a week or two?
I read your reply to Marian, and the first thing that she said is that we don't do enough !LOLZ

You and your Marian, are way too humble!

I'd better make a plan and go down before I get to 90! I left the BnB in the hands of my loyal staff for nearly 6 weeks when I went to the Netherlands, so that won't be a problem. I have to save my pennies now until the estate is wound up. The costs are ludicrous!

Well then, in that case I am sure that your loyal staff will manage well for only 2 weeks. Winding up estates is ridiculous as everyone wants a cut, and so it's expensive to die. We will not have that problem, as we have a private executer that will handle my departure for free. So, only the legal costs will be covered by us, but even that will be expensive.
What I can't understand is that one works hard in a lifetime, pay taxes, and then gets ripped off in death.
So sad.

I have an estates attorney who's charging a low fee, but the other costs, especially to transfer the house into my name, are very high! If the house was in both our names, the cost would be the same, simply crazy!
It's costly to come into the world, and to die even more costly!
Thankfully the attorney is not asking for money upfront, unlike Absa Trust who gave me various options to pay the estimated costs upfront, as there are only assets in the estate - one was to pay the exorbitant cost upfront, or sell assets. They even suggested auctioning the house to pay the costs!
Thankfully I managed to get them to renounce the will after a long fight, naturally at a cost! It was awful having to deal with that while still grieving.
It happened to a friend of mine as well, his wife's will was with Standard Bank.
All the large estate administrators do that, so a trusted attorney is the way to go!
Very sad indeed!

Ah yes, I remember your post about the costs and the fight to get Absa to renounce the will. My father-in-law also had a bank as an executor, but we had a chat and he abruptly changed it. In fact, I mentioned your struggle to him, and specified that the banks have no emotions regardless of one's grief, as they are only interested in profit. Imagine them telling you to put your house on auction, sheer sacrilege. It was great of you to escape their clutches. Transfer costs are very expensive, and a pity that the house was not in your name, as then there would be no transfer costs.
We have a very sharp and trusted person as an executor, and I am sure that Marian will be okay when I depart this planet. One has to make plans before the celebrated event of departure. !LOLZ

After attending such events, our knowledge increases a lot, the weather there is very good and these hilly areas have many special things to visit.

Oh yes, it is always an eye opener to see how people in the communities suffer, and if one can train the leaders, then they will be empowered to take better care of the communities.
The weather is great, and the place is a photographer's paradise.

Thank you, and if one equips the leaders with quality skills, they will be empowered to uplift the poor people in the communities. South Africa has a huge un-employment problem, and we just have to train the people to open their own small businesses :)
