Calamity broke the peace.

This is one of those posts with a twist in its tail...
062.jpg

...as the scenes were very peaceful, with a Hadeda Ibis at the front, and some Guinea Fowls at the back.

Lovely to see that the Hadeda did not disturb the Guineafowls, as at this stage they were all eating together. Two totally different bird species, and we can certainly learn from the harmony between the birds. What I mean to say is, as humans we camp ourselves with those that like us, and we don't easily accept strangers. But come and see what happened here on this day.

What a peaceful sight as the birds gathered.

But then, the peace was totally wrecked.

So many times in life we experience unexpected setbacks, and some of them can be very dangerous. We feel just as helpless as what happened here, especially when we feel that we stand no chance against the odds, but somehow there is always an escape that becomes available. Guineafowls are frail critters and we as humans are also frail beings. So, all of this came to my mind when I watched what happened here.

A stray dog arrived at high speed.

And the dog headed FOR THE BIRDS.
081.JPG

083.JPG

During the chase, the guineafowls managed to run away from the dog's attack. But then, they saw that things were getting too close for comfort, as the dog was very fast.
080.JPG

So, finally, they all flew away squawking (swearing):)
086.JPG

It really broke my heart to see this, and I was too far away to scare the dog off, and so I could just stand and watch how the scenes unfolded. Many think that guineafowls can't fly, but that is a myth as you saw them fly here. In my eagerness to get them flying on the camera, the shot became slightly blurred, and I cannot blame the light as it was my own mistake. All that I can say is that I had only split seconds to take the shot.

I don't know if you saw the pun in the introduction about the twist in its tail, as it fits with the dog that has a tail. It really disturbs me to watch occasions like this, and I am only thankful that the dog did not manage to catch one of the fowls. So, after all things turned out well and I only worry if the birds would return but I think that they might be used to these escapes from danger.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Wow, it was so peaceful until the "tail" came and caused a commotion. 😂 Luckily, all the birds survived. The photos made my heart race when I saw the chase!

You are so right about the "tail", and I also feared that the tail would catch one of the birds. The birds are survivors, as I think that they have to face many surprises.

It was heartwarming to see the peaceful moments of the birds, it seemed like everything was going well. But suddenly the arrival of the dog changed the whole scene. Yet, thanks to the intelligence and speed of the birds, they survived—it was nice to see. The pictures really tell a story.

Such is life, and nature teaches us many lessons. For instance, if we as humans face dangers, then the best thing is to flee from it.
Glad that you liked the story.

Don't blame the cute dog, it just wanted to chase something, or maybe play with something or somebody, and the available living thing around are the turkeys, never knew it will get them all scared and flying away.

I'm pretty sure, the dog meant no harm. Just wagging and smiling.
Thanks for sharing @papilloarm

My warm regards.

I have seen what a dog can do to a guineafowl when the dog catches it, and it is not a pretty sight.

Wow! Reeeaaalllyyy!!!😲
I must have underestimated the dog, he's so cute with its little paws, I never knew it's capable of such chaos.

I'm happy to hear that the dog missed his quarry. I do know that guinea can fly, as I bought a mated pair at a sale barn as a gift for my father. As they brought the pair out to put into my transport cage, the male flew way off to a very tall tree. Nothing to do but head for home with a very unhappy female guinea. The next week, there he was at the sale barn, in a cage waiting to be reunited with his mate lol. The sale barn employees had caught him for me.

Thank you Tammy. What a great story you have here, and a pity that you didn't take photos or did a post about it.
I am glad that the guineas were reunited, and I hope that you gave all the sale barn employees hugs:)
I bet your father was also happy.

It would have made a great post, now that you mention it. Unfortunately, that was many years ago...I don't think cell phones were even invented then 😆

Ah, at times I so wish that we could have the old times back, but sadly it's an empty wish.

Yes! It may be just an empty wish, but it is one of my fondest! Simpler times call to me :-)

Simpler times also haunt us, as this world has become a technical nightmare. =D
