Another dam with lovely reflections...

...and with raindrops now drumming down on the roof, my soul pines for another warm day.
075.jpg

The first of two new cold fronts from the Atlantic Ocean has landed, and we will soon fall asleep at night with the crazy wind howling in our ears. The sea is a very wide-open expanse, and it offers no resistance to the windspeeds as it roars across the ocean at incredibly high speeds. As usual, I took some photos of the advancing storm clouds, and I will show you in another post.

For now, let's concentrate on the contents of this post. We went to a dam at the Vergelegen Wine Estate, as a friend told me that the dam's surface was like a mirror and indeed it was as I saw when we arrived. It is a very big farm, and the dam is close to the mountains. Most of the trees were still in their naked winter stage, but that will soon change when they put on new dresses in the spring season. Talking about trees, there are very big trees on this farm as I will show you below.

An Egyptian goose came into land on the water.

I took a wider shot out to show you what the mountain looked like.
090.JPG

As I said above, here below is an idea of how big the trees are.

I asked my beloved to stand there next to the tree trunk, to give you an idea of its girth.
103.JPG

And here you can see how high this tree is.
101.JPG

Just a few shots below of the dam reflections in the water.

Note that the dam reflection pictures are not similar, as in each picture a different view of the mountain range behind the dam can be seen.
098.JPG

099.JPG

I saw a Sacred Ibis coming in over the mountain.
107.JPG

And this, picture below, is a wider look of the first picture in the post.
082.JPG

Finally, let sleeping ducks lie. A pun on let sleeping dogs lie:)

Fast asleep and no care in the world.
093.JPG

Until I coughed loudly, and it is a Yellow-billed duck (Anas undulata).
092.JPG

If you look carefully, you will see that not one of the dam reflection pictures are the same, as I concentrated on different views of the mountain. I love the reflections as they bring a sense of wonder to my mind, nature's very own mirror. I also think that the first time, very long ago, when the very early human beings saw their own reflections in the water, spurred the thought to make mirrors. I just wonder at their reaction, the first time that they saw themselves reflected in the water. One can conjure up all kinds of jokes about this.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Beautiful views and it is interesting how nature agrees to give us such wonderful landscapes.

The waters of the lake look clean and crystalline and the reflections in them of the whole landscape reaffirms it.
Even the mountains are reflected in the waters of the lake.

Thank you for sharing.
Happy Monday and a better week.

Cheers and greetings.

Greetings also to you. We really like the landscapes here, and the pure water in the dams comes from the springs in the mountains. So, we can say that the mountains own the rivers and the dams.

May your week also be good.

What a beautiful lake! The reflections are spectacular. Lakes are wonderful, as they're home to a wide variety of animals, like the ones you photographed. What a big tree! Are those sequoias or something similar? They're truly incredible. I've seen big trees, but they seem small compared to that one. Thank you for taking such great photos. The photos reflect a natural and dazzling charm. A fascinating post. I loved the views of that lake; it's dazzling.😊😀

Oh yes, that dam is one of our favorites to relax at whenever we can get an opportunity. It's so great to step aside from the chase in life, in order to preserve one's sanity, and nature certainly welcomes us with wonderful views. We will have to wait until spring to identify the tree by its new leaves.
Glad that you liked the photos and stay safe.

Thank you very much, and if it's true, whenever we have the chance, we should take a little time to relax. It's wonderful to have a favorite spot. I used to have one where I used to sit and read; it was wonderful. Thank you. I'm really looking forward to finding out what kind of tree it is.

That is a lovely reflection dam...

I've always wondered, is it allowed for people to swim in lakes made by dams?

Thank you, and no, swimming in the dams is not allowed, although swimming and water sports are allowed in the bigger lakes.
