And so, the new cold front has landed here in South Africa.

As usual, I took some photos before the cold front's arrival.

At first, we thought that it was smoke from a wildfire, but no, it was mist.

Not ordinary mist, as this stuff that came over was very dense and wet to the touch. Not that one can actually touch it, because the wet touched my hand. This was, I think, the eight or the ninth cold front in a series that hit us lately. The early ones, numbers 1, 2, and 3, were the early ones that created all the damages. Thousands of people were misplaced, and hundreds of homes were destroyed. Thankfully, this latest one only has soft rain, but the ground all over the areas is drenched and floods are a constant problem, especially further inland.
So, come and look at our misty day.

One could barely see the houses, and driving in this area would be very dangerous.

I think there was a movie called Gorillas in the mist, but these below are gorilla trees in the mist.

So, we decided to go and look what the ocean looks like.
462.JPG

The mountains, on the way, were barely visible.
482.JPG

Some spots of rain landed on the windscreen of our car.
452.JPG

Just another mountain shot.

And there, in the mist on the horizon, you can see what the see looked like, as those tall dim buildings in the mist, are all on the oceanfront.
383.JPG

So, we decided to head for home.

Not very nice to drive in stuff like this, but I wanted to share the images for you to see what the weather's like here. We are in a winter rainfall area on the extreme southern tip of the African continent and exposed to the Atlantic Ocean. Our province is known worldwide as the Cape of Storms. Most often, we are the first to get hit by the heavy storms before they travel inland. And need I mention that the storm winds can travel between 75 and 85 kilometers per hour, especially the south-easterly wind that is called the Cape Doctor. That wind can blow one right off one's feet, and it can tip busses and big trucks on the highways. Thankfully this latest one is just light rain thus far, but a lot of it, so we will wait to see the news about the floods again.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

These cloudscapes are fabulous. These photos make me nostalgic. They are great photography for me. If I'm not mistaken, it should be winter in South Africa right now.

Thank you, Stefano, for your appreciation of the photos. You are correct, as we are in winter here, and we still have another month to go. Spring will start on the 1st of September.

I'm so looking forward to the Autumn when our landscapes are also so beautiful misty again.
I like the photos of the mountains and the Gorilla trees most, but you know that anyway, don't you 😉

Thank you my friend, and as I said elsewhere, you were in my thoughts when I took the photos. Your misty shots are just more dramatic than mine, and yes, I knew that the Gorilla tree shots would be your favorite 😊 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

There aren't that many mountains close to where I live, but the views of those I have seen are always breathtaking, especially with the mist clouds rolling over them like this. We are getting plenty of storms right now though, so we do have that in common!

Oh yes, mist and mountains go very well together, and mist has variable densities, that affects the color of the mountain views. Thankfully we are now nearing the end of our winter rainy season, but we might still have a few storms. I see that the world is full of storms lately.

Just above the mountains there is a similar view, it is more cold there. Such views are beautiful.

Yes, you are right, and it is indeed very cold up there. We love the beauty of the misty mountains.
