A visit to the mountains.

Generations over time have been blessed with these views.

Imagine that you and your family are in an ox drawn wagon about to cross the mountains.

I often wonder about these things, as my research in history revealed some extreme battles by the settlers to cross the mountains with their ox carts. Surely, they have seen the intimidating sights of the high and rough mountain peaks. But cross it they did by investigating the paths of the big buck tracks that led across the mountain. Then it was a big job with pick and shovel to widen the buck paths for the wagons to fit in. In some sections they even had to draw the oxen and the wagons up by ropes.
So now these days, we have a nice and wide tarred mountain pass, to cross with a car, with nary a thought about the battle of the old timers.

An Egyptian Goose below was my message that bad weather was on the way.

And for sure, as the wind speed increased, it started chasing the clouds in.

This below was the scene when we stopped back home.

Intermittently, the sun peeped through the gaps in the clouds.

Sunset arrived and I thought that maybe the wind would clear the clouds away.

But no go, as you can see below that clouds won the battle and a bit later it started to rain.

So, let's imagine a little more. The year is 1754, and you have to travel many miles in an oxcart on your way to the mountains. There are no roads, and you have to cross deep rivers and knee-deep mud in many wetlands. At night the roar of lions and the bark of hyenas lull you to sleep. A hard and tough life and they looked at the same mountains that you see in here. The mountains hold many secrets, and they whisper some of them to me sometimes when a soft wind crosses their peaks. I am even convinced that I can hear a baby crying at times. But then again, it is only my imagination, as the wind makes its sounds through the pine trees.

I forget all birthdays, so I have added the most important ones as contact with birthday in my phone. But my phone doesn't always remind me, so I am happy that you reminded me of your birthday this year 👍😆

The important date to send me a big birthday cake with a nice surprise in it is August 11, but to be honest, I really don't mind if someone forgets my birthday.

Now Hannes, no decent octopus will allow their babies to become friendly with humans. The very big mom has 8 arms, so two around your ankles, two around your thighs, and two around your arms. Then she uses the last two arms to tilt you and to eat you slowly from your toes upwards. 😲 !LOLZ

As soon as she starts eating me her kid will start crying and she will let me go and maybe even accept me as new family member with 2 arms only 😆

Oh yes, a very hard life, but they showed us all that determined human beings can achieve great successes in beating discomforts. One has to realize that they were also involved in many battles against stock thieves and other clans, and so it was not a walk in the park. Whenever they were attacked, they would pull the wagons into a circle, called a "laager", and the men would fire their rifles, while the women and older children were loading their spare rifles. At times their enemies would win and then they would kill all and burn the wagons. So, it was not a life for sissies !LOL

Sadly, you are right, but in this modern day there are very few people that don't have enemies.

Now when I say clans, I mean local tribes that saw them as intruders on their property. They also had a war against the British that colonized this country, and it's a long story.
