A trip on a whale cruiser.

We visited the new harbor in Hermanus, as we had not seen it before.

No, we did not take the trip on the boat, but it is on our list as soon as the whales arrive. I have already shared a few posts last week of our visit to Hermanus, and I am glad that many of you liked them. A friend of ours lives in Hermanus, and he will let us know when the whales arrive. Many Southern Right whales will appear to breed in the bay over the next few months, and one can also get much closer to the whales by taking a trip on the whale cruiser boat. In my mind's eye, I can already see one of the giants leaping out of the water right next to the boat.

Note: I also have a short video about the whale cruiser boat coming in.

So, let's watch the boat coming in.

The blue and white boat looked like some sort of a Schooner model.

Keep an eye on the balls drifting on the water in front of the yachts.

Oh yeah, each of the balls had a bird on it. Cormorants.

Finally, this shot below was the place where I was standing to take all of the photos.

We also have some whale festivals that will take place in August, and September, and we will try to book a boat trip on the whale cruiser while one of the festivals is taking place. Sort of a "two birds with one stone" scenario :)

Read more about the festivals at the source below.

Whale festival
Hermanus hosts an annual Hermanus Whale Festival at the end of September, to celebrate the calving and mating season. Eco-Tourism is the main theme of the Hermanus whale festival with the Eco-Marine Village. Residents and visitors celebrate the migration of Southern Right Whales and other marine wildlife with ocean-themed activities and exhibitions, emphasizing education and environmentally responsible adventures and activities. Prior to this main whale festival, a Kalfiefees (or Calf Festival) is held, to welcome the first whales (usually in August). Both festivals are characterized by food and craft stalls, environmental presentations, and South African drama productions.

So, if you plan to visit Hermanus, to see the whales, then you can try to visit during one of the whale festivals.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Cruising and seeing wild animals and in their natural habitat will never cease to amaze us . I once swam with whale sharks, locally known as "butanding" in the Philippines. These are the gentle giants found in Cebu and other parts of the Philippines. But you get to interact with them closely in Oslob, Cebu. You're not allowed to touch them, though.

Always amazing, and glad to see that you swam with whale sharks. They are indeed gentle giants that feeds on plankton and small fish. We have a few of them here, but our Atlantic waters are populated by great white sharks (man eaters), and also Orcas. So never a good idea to swim if any of them are around.

That must be scary. I've heard some terrifying news of shark attacks. Although not all of them are harmful to humans, but great white sharks are a specie to watch out for. What about rivers? Is it safe to swim in the rivers?

Scary to see the results of an attack, and our rivers are safe to swim in.

What an interesting and pleasant place. There's so much blue in it. Cormorants, as always, they like to sit on things like this.

Very interesting, and I will do a post with even more blues in it. The Cormorants don't even fly when boats pass by.
