A stunning post of two bird types.

I heard the squeals, but my problem was to find his hiding place.
159.JPG

Not easy to find him, but common sense told me that he would be in the same tree that I found his mother with her prey before.

I did post the mother in the tree a while back and she must be pleased that junior can now find prey and eat on his own. He is also big now and the changes in his colors will also start soon. Grey, with a small yellow head and twin white stripes on his tail. The size of his head was designed for him to stick his head into bird nests and holes in the ground to get rodents.
Let's have a look at him.

The cries of delight were coming from that high grey-green tree at the right hand of the picture. He sat in that top bend of the tree trunk.
149.JPG

Yep! He is a big boy now and he is a juvenile Harrier Hawk.
196.JPG

That's the loud cry of achievement that helped me to find him.

197.JPG

I could not quite see what he was eating, due to the bad light.
184.JPG

Finally, he was done and he took off.

Here below is something that I got much later in the afternoon.

Three shots of some Pied Crows, and the last one is my favorite.
070.JPG

Oops! Not easy to take off in the strong wind.
072.JPG

Finally, this last shot of the 4 crows was the icing on my cake for the day.

It is at times like this that I am thankful for the strong zoom on my Canon Bridge camera. All of the photos in here were taken at a distance on the zoom, and you can see that they didn't come out too bad. At times in better weather, I also take photos of closer stuff in nature, such as flowers and insects, but my first love is to get the birds of prey and other animals on the zoom. Some of you might have seen my baboon posts and much else that I have shared here in my blog over the years.

Mountains and the ocean are close by for zoomed landscapes, and a host of other stuff like sculptures etcetera are also available. Not even to talk about the many beautiful wine farms that we have here, and almost every day I find something different. Thankfully I never have a lack of inspiration, or writers block, as there is so much to see. Life should be seen as an adventure, and I have had many over my almost 70 years on this planet. Way too much to count, and I will simply continue until I am no more.
Such is life.

I hope that you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

He angled in for a kill, you angled in on his victorious call, always on high the zoom is such a necessity for photography here.

Crows always bring along miles of smiles I find them fascinating to watch with some crazy antics performed.

All kinds of angels to get this guy, and I still hear him every day, but don't want to scare him away. I would never get him without the zoom !LOLZ

A lot of young crows here now, and just like children, they like to play.

Thank you for the tip and have some !PIZZA with !LUV

Most photos require zooming in, most birds being high up or further afield, capture without frightening them away.

You are right, and even when they are sitting with prey, one must move very slowly to get them on the zoom, as they have excellent eye sight and can spot one from a mile away.

If humans were capable of learning, less mud slinging, conniving demise of the other, we could go a long way.

Well, it is just before the voting period, and character assassinations are happening all over the place. A real struggle to get to the money troughs and the cushy lives.

I saw that a warning is out for a heatwave in kzn, so please take care.

Actual assassinations and character one cannot believe the lengths they go to in this place...

Heat was sapping even under the aircon, second time it has been 29C around midnight, still no electrical storm to break the back of this one yet.

Slanging matches and bullets flying certainly makes one to think about the future of this country.

I simply struggle with sleep in those temps and hope that some water will appear soon to bring some relief to the situation.

Crime is out of hand as are the people running the show.

I don't use aircon at night, too expensive and cannot sleep under them either, a fan a wish and a whim.

Can you believe that during the last 3 months of 2023, some 7000 murders occurred? I am not talking about a war someplace, as it is mentioned in the latest police stats.

Yep! We also use a fan at night, and tomorrow we climb into the 30Cs again.

Weekend off from extreme heat here, after the news with crime stats on Friday one can only question why are the SADF and Police not doing more for our own people. Sending troops to die in the Congo, court cases against Northern countries, wish they would take time and sweep clean their own home....

Great that it's cooler there, and we sit with 30C today. Tomorrow will be 31C.
Clean your own backyard first, before you criticize the dirt in the backyards of others. I am amazed that this old and true saying is not some political party's slogan.
So many wrongs here and so many denials.

Nice shots of the Harrier Hawk! I love birds of prey, beautiful creatures! Looks like that youngster will do OK on his own. Loved the shot with the four birds too, great timing on that one.

Thank you, I I share your love for the birds of prey. The young one will cope just fine, and he will be strong enough to endure the coming winter.
The crows are also still youngsters and like children, they like to play.

Thank you for the token. !PIZZA and !LOLZ
