A potentially dangerous incident occurred...

...and my wife let out such a loud scream, that it has to be noted in the Guiness World Record book :)
075.jpg

We are careful as we know that the baboons raid the cars when the doors are unlocked, or windows are open.

So, whenever we come here, my wife remains in the car with all of the doors locked. I am usually outside, and I was taking shots of a young baboon inspecting a truck that was parked nearby for an opening. He tried the doors, and amazingly he knew that some of the trucks have a clear sunroof which in this case might be open.
But, stay with me, and I will tell the story with the pictures below.

Deftly, he jumped on to the back, and I couldn't see the driver inside the truck.
076.JPG

The baboon switched over to the other side.
078.JPG

And then, no luck he couldn't find an opening.
079.JPG

I was on the way back to our car, and my wife unlocked the doors as I was approaching. In the meantime, the baboon was also coming over, and he walked around the front of our car. I thought he was going to the other side of the parking lot.

And now something unbelievable took place.

So, I opened the driver's door and then my wife also opened her door. At least, I thought my wife opened her door for some reason and as I was getting into the car my wife let out such a loud scream that even the mountains started shaking. Guess what? THE BABOON OPENED MY WIFE'S DOOR!

Sheer panic as the baboon made a backflip when she screamed, and she grabbed the door handle to shut the door. I am so sad that I couldn't get a picture of it, as I would have loved to see my wife and the gentleman that opened her door meeting face to face. Lol.
At her scream some tourists on her side also dashed to their cars, and there were two guys standing a way off that were laughing at the whole incident.

But the baboon was a tough guy, and he jumped on our car's roof. Then he slid down the windscreen over to my window, and he tried to complain to me about my wife's scream, as he had never heard such an outlandish sound before.

Lol. How many of you have ever had a wild baboon sitting on your car door's mirror? We waited patiently for him to disembark.
119.JPG

Cooly, he jumped off and walked towards the other side of the parking lot.
121.JPG

Shame, I think that scream totally unnerved him, as he sat there biting his nails. Lol. Now there is one baboon that will never forget my wife's face, shame poor guy.
112.JPG

That's it for our baboon adventure, and it could have ended differently, as if that baboon got into the car there would have been a serious situation, but no it did not happen, so thankfully nobody, human or animal, got hurt. In fact, once I got my wife over her fright, we both laughed about the incident. She can now go and brag to her family that she faced a live baboon down and he ran away from her :)

I had to add some humor in, because I found it very funny. Imagine a baboon unexpectedly opening the door of your car to get in, you will have to put a safety belt on him as it is against the law to drive with passengers that don't have seatbelts. I wonder what you and the baboon will talk about in the car during the drive. Just be very careful as baboons also know how to unlock safety belts. Lol.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

That is hilarious! That is one persistent baboon that really wanted to raid your vehicle. The scream must have scared him, I bet he wasn't used to that when he opens car doors! They are intelligent, even looking for a way in through the sunroof. I'm glad it didn't get in, that would have been a huge problem. At least it turned out safely and you have a really funny story to tell!

Wild animals are always unpredictable. In Yellowstone National Park here in the US people used to feed the grizzly bears and they would wait by the side of the road for handouts. Once my grandfather stopped and gave a bear half a stick of gum. He then chewed the other half and rolled up the car window. The bear suddenly objected to not getting the whole stick of gum and swatted at my grandfather just after the window was closed. Closing the window likely saved his life, but goes to show you wild animals are very unpredictable and can be dangerous!

Well, I think that I summed it up correctly and I just had to add some dashes of humor. Lol I don't know if our laughter afterwards was a stress reliever, or just to settle my wife's anxiety. In any case, the baboon was just as surprised as my wife was. Maybe he will have to go and see the baboon psychologist. I think that I will also have to visit a councilor, as my wife's primeval scream unsettled my stomach and I almost pooped in the car. :) Only joking.

I agree with your statement that wildlife is unpredictable, and your grandfather was one very lucky guy. He must have swallowed the other half of the gum, and almost choked in fright :) But no go, as grandfathers were made of very sterner stuff. One day I will tell you how one of my uncles shot a leopard that jumped on him.

They were tougher, after WWII he had his own business operating cranes. He must have fallen off half of the building he was working on over the years, and never got seriously injured. He was a very lucky man, I wish I had his luck!

Surviving a leopard attack by shooting it, now that is one hell of story!

No luck, as they were only tougher in those days. So many stories abound of their endurance and strength :)

The leopard ripped his shoulder open in the attack.

What a scary but wholesome day you witnessed @papilloncharity. Your wife must be so scared of that time and I envy her experiencing that funny scenario with a baboon. Imagining the scenario, that was so funny, especially with those tourists and guys who also witnessed it, I can almost hear their laughs. Anyways, do baboons normally walks around your town? I have been very ignorant of baboons and othe rmonkey species as we don't see it here that often or ever. They are smart creatures and I do want to find myself driving with one of them with the seatbelt on. Lol. I guess it would be sharing everything it saw of our ancestors and how stubborn and funny they are during those years. This is a funny and memorable experience. 😅

Oh yeah, it was a real adventure Lol
both the baboon and my wife was scared, as the baboon didn't know that she was sitting in the car, and his intention was to find a jackpot of food inside the car. My wife just saw her door opening and as they stared into each other faces, she let out a scream that could be heard for miles around. I think that two of the guys that laughed were locals, and all of the tourists ran to their cars in fear.
A real jamboree :) No, the baboons do not come into the towns here, but some have commandeered a suburb of the big city. They raid the houses over there. You do want to find yourself in big trouble as the baboon will be suddenly sitting on your lap with bared teeth, and he will command you to drive into the lair of his family. Lol

That story is hilarious and slightly terrifying at the same time. The image of the baboon calmly opening the car door while panic erupts inside is pure comedy gold. I love how it turns into one of those travel moments that probably felt scary in the second it happened, but instantly became a story you’ll be telling for years.

Thank you and that's how golden memories are made. Lol
Very scary indeed, but our laughter about what might have been settled things down. I like how you summed it up as comedy gold. So, now I am under orders never to take my wife up there again, but time will heal, and then she will see things my way again :)

Nooooooo ahahahahah 😂😂 your poor wife 😂 They can open a freaking door?! What? Are they expecting treats? 😂 I don't know how I would react 😂 But yes, you two have a story to tell for the rest of your life 😂 And there are pictures, sooo 😂😂😂

They walk around and test all of the cars' doors. If one forgets to lock and to close all of the windows, then upon their return they will find a baboon sitting on a seat inside with their snack box, or cooler box on his lap :)
Golden memories indeed!

Oh no, those baboons are getting too clever! I would also have screamed like that!
The monkeys are just as crafty

Sorry Lady Lizzie, I don't know why my replies did not go through yesterday.
Shame if you were here and screamed with my wife, that poor baboon would end up in a baboon asylum.
Monkeys almost destroyed my caravan years ago.

Haha, imagine the news headlines. We'd be accused of mentally abusing baboons😅
I can imagine the monkeys; they also are very destructive!

Sorry for the late reply, still battling with this PC.
Yep, I can imagine those Headlines :)
Buggers broke many things, and not so clever as the baboons, as they didn't open the small camping fridge !LOL
