A juvenile sunbird, and an olive thrush.

The little guy is up first, and he already has his dad's twinkling song.

Here he was sipping nectar on our Jacob's Ladder plant.

We are looking forward to the little sunbird becoming an adult. Hopefully they will try to make a nest again in our Pelargonium bush. His great grand-parents nested in the pelargonium and his mom and dad decided to nest in the back garden of our neighbour's property. Maybe this one will follow the wisdom of the old order and nest here again.

My wife always makes sure that there is food in the garden, and we have an issue with the big ring-neck doves that chase all the small birds away. The squirrels don't care about the ring-neck doves, and at times, when a squirrel is in a hurry, he will run right through one of the ring-necks. A show to watch, as the dove has to depart in a real hurry.

This is a male Southern Double-collared Sunbird (Cinnyris chalybeus).

One can get very thirsty on a hot day, and a drink was in order.

A real small and cute little critter.

And now let's have a look at the stealth of an Olive Thrush (Turdus olivaceus).

He knew I was watching, but he thought he was behind the plant.

Stealthily he grabbed a piece of avocado that a squirrel had dropped.

It was a nice bite to eat, and he swallowed it in one go. Then he was off.

So, yeah, at times it can get very lively here in our small front garden, with squirrels all over and birds all over. The little white-eye birds also like the avocado, and they have a little baby that they feed. We haven't seen the baby yet, but we can hear it in the tree screaming for food. Soon, the baby will also come and eat here.

The good news is that one of the squirrel moms is pregnant again, and soon there will be new babies around in the garden. The little squirrel with the injured back feet did not come in today, and we suppose that she will only be able to make it on some odd days as it is very difficult for her to walk or run. Our fear is that she will cross the road in the front as she can only move slowly, and she will be in real danger of becoming roadkill.
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Those are some cute and cool shots of birds... Would love to take such photos, too!

I see a lot of birds on tree branches around our place, but I still haven't gotten the chance to snap some photos. I'd love to, but it's going to be challenging especially with just a smartphone camera. haha

Thank you, and I see on Hive that many people get good shots of birds with their smartphones. Maybe you will have to practise a bit more :)
