A hot afternoon here in Africa.

There were a lot of midges flying about and the dragonfly used our fence as a launching pad to get them.

A pure dragonfly post and I will show you three different species, all taken on the same afternoon.

Try as I might, there was no way that I could get the dragonfly catching a midge in flight. I got a few shots of the attack, but they were totally blurred. So, we just have to see it in a static position. The granadilla fruits are now ripe and the strawberry guava fruits are also ripe, so they attract all the little midges and there is a cloud of them flying around in the late afternoon.

From what I could see, I think that this is a Nomad (Sympetrum fonscolombii).

I lifted this little shield bug from a granadilla fruit, to show you what he looks like. The thing about shield bugs, is that they cannot penetrate a granadilla but they can get into the skin which leaves little yellow marks on the fruit. But thankfully, it is not damaging to the fruit and one can still eat them.

A sheer sign of Autumn's approach as you can see the leaves are starting to take on a yellow color.

It is a beautiful female Cape Skimmer (Orthetrum julia capicola) sitting on our granadilla fence. Granadillas are also known as passion fruits and this variety comes from Brazil.

Finally, I got this one landing on a tree across the road, and it looks like one of the Glider species.

So yeah, all hands on deck when the dragonflies come in to get the midges, and my camera loves to get them, so that I can share them with you. In the early mornings it is the squirrels that keep me busy, and in the afternoons, it is the dragonflies and the predator birds that are on show.
In-between we can pop out during a power cut to take photos in nature, and you can believe me when I say that there is an abundance of nature and its wild residents available over here.

Hard to come by readers of my posts lately and if you are one of those that actually read a post, then I thank you sincerely.

I hope you have enjoyed the story and the pictures.

I enjoyed the post a lot :) Why aren't you putting any in Feathered Friends???

Is it even possible to get a clear picture of a dragonfly making a kill? I think they're too fast!

How are the squirrels?

Thank you! As to your question, we are on the same wavelength, and keep an eye out for my post in #featheredfriends on Monday.

Well, I will continue to try, as their strike is even too fast in slow-mo !LOLZ

Squirrels are fine and they had babies again, but now only the two mothers come to eat here. They love avocado.

Hope that your weekend is great my friend.
