A Flyday (Friday) post.
I decided to show you how our wild birds handle a very strong wind. We are known as the "Cape of Storms" and so many birds get born here in the midst of storms, that they all know how to handle the winds as adults.
It looked like the Pied Crow was taking his jacket off in the strong wind and I got 2 good shots of one using the wind to hover in midair.
We wish everyone a happy weekend and peace to all. As I said above about the Cape of Storms, the wind can blow at amazing speeds here in the Cape and the coast is littered with ships that sank during extra strong gusts of wind. The last thing that a ship captain wants, is for a big wave to capsize his ship when a gust of wind turns a ship sideways in the ocean. The poor sailors stand no chance.
But this is a post to show you how the birds handle the wind.
Seagulls are also very used to the winds.
A couple of swallows were picking up bugs in the air that were dislodged from the trees by the wind.
The cute goslings were taught by their mom to cuddle against the wind, and we are so happy that there are still 8 left.
A Ring-neck Dove flew low over the rooftops.
The geese were high up, flying with the wind behind them, and I was lucky to snap a quick shot because they were going at high speed.
Look how the wind battered this dove as he flew up from the rooftop.
And then it was sunset and look how the wind exploded this cloud.
Crazy days, as at times it's difficult to keep one's balance while walking around. I have taken most of the photos in the front garden of our home, as the granadilla fences protect us from the wind. But in saying this, we also love the strong winds as they blow all the germs and "bad" insects away, especially the mosquitoes and the flies.
The heartsore story for us is to see the street people seeking cover under the bridges and any other places that they can find to protect themselves against the elements. We were told that the city is going to build a 300 bed shelter for those that live on the streets, but from personal experience, I doubt that many will want to stay in a shelter, as there are no drugs, or alcohol available. And a referee will also have to be employed in the shelter, as there will be lots of fights.
I hope you have enjoyed the pictures.
