A crazy fire season.

I will show you the fire in an empty lot behind our house, and then I will also show you a cloud fire in the sky.
So first up is the fire behind our place.
021.JPG

They reckon that we had 42 fires on Christmas and Boxing Day. Imagine that, and the one very big fire that is still raging in the Cape Town city mountains as I type this. Some 6 helicopters dumping sea water there, and a big contingent of firemen working on the ground. The problem is not only the blazing sun, but also the ultra-high speed strong winds, that can change direction at a whim. The wind can gather a smoldering piece of a branch and it can dump it miles away, where the branch lights up to start a new fire.
Several townships have also burnt down and its havoc out there.

This fire started on an empty plot of land near the bridge over our river. The good thing was that the fire truck could draw its water directly from the river.

This below is the strong wind that I am talking about, as look how it simply tears the cloud apart, to steam it along.

The owner of the plot had the property securely fenced to protect it from vandals, and land invaders. But I could pick up some flames through the fence.

The flames can simply explode any thick tree parts in its way, but thankfully the fire was contained, and they will monitor it overnight.

And now I will show you the skies own fire.

A wow golden glow in the heavens.

Here's a close up of that bottom string of the clouds above.

A live picture of nature's art as the sky was painted in fabulous colors.

This was the result of a strong wind partnering with the sunset to paint the skies.

And then the road lamps were switched on and the beautiful skies started to fade.

Finally, just a look at that streetlamp.

And then the show was over. Like I said, we are having hot days now and today was in the 30Cs. The temperatures are bound to keep on increasing, until late February, or even late March. Currently some inland areas and on the West Coast of the province, the temps are approaching the 40Cs. Scorching hot and even in the shade of a tree one boils. Warnings are out for the dangers to children and the elderly folks, as sunstroke is a big danger.
So, at the moment I feel that if the fires on land don't get me, the sun will :)

We have a fan running here in the study, but it simply just blows the hot air around. I have some ice blocks on it, but at 20 minutes a dam starts to form under the fan, as the blocks warm up. An air conditioner is the answer, but they do not only cost a bomb, they also use a lot of very expensive electricity. So that is no solution for us. One has to stay hydrated, and we drink quite a few bottles of ice water every day.
Such is life.

Oh wow! I haven't seen such sky before, it looks like fire itself. I believe that's why you are experiencing more hot days because they sky itself looks hot, lol! It's good that you are drinking more ice.

Yeah, we often get weird skies over here and I am waiting for the right cloudy conditions. Then I will go down to the beach and get sunset on the sea again. In this heat it is essential to stay hydrated.
