Snow White Review: A $180M Disaster?
I just watched a movie called Snow White. The main villain in this movie is Gal Gadot (our Wonder Woman). I finished watching the movie, and the reports that came before its release were mostly true. The movie has some problems, which made me think that it would not be good.
Budget and Direction
The budget of this movie is $180 million, but still...
I suspected that the movie might be bad, because The Electric State movie had a much bigger budget, but it failed. There are no such big directors here! So the movie had a high chance of failing.
Story Summary
We have heard the story before—the story of a princess. She is the heir to a huge kingdom. When her mother dies, her father marries an evil queen (Gal Gadot). This queen knows magic and thinks that she is the most beautiful woman in the world.
One day, the queen asks her magic mirror—
"Who is the most beautiful woman in the world?"
The mirror answers—
"Snow White"
Then the queen wants to kill Snow White. What happens next, you will see in the movie.
What are the problems?
- Execution is weak – The presentation of the story seems very childish. It is not for adults, but completely made for children.
- Musical elements are absurd – The movie is a musical, meaning the characters often suddenly start singing. But it feels very random. For example, if someone just gives an order, they still start singing!
- Comedy flop – The movie tried to be funny, but it did not work at all for adults. Children may laugh at some scenes, but it is completely boring for adults.
- Acting – I did not like the acting of the main character (Snow White). The supporting cast is also average.
- Visuals are nice, but not enough – The graphics and CGI of the movie are good, but it is not enough to save the movie.
The biggest problem?
The main problem is—
"Snow White actually looks less beautiful than the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot)!"
This is funny, because according to the story, the queen is so beautiful that she was proud of her beauty. But here Gal Gadot is actually much more beautiful than Snow White! If Gal Gadot had been made Snow White, it would have been better.
Watch an alternative movie
If you want to see a really good Snow White movie, then watch Snow White and the Huntsman (2012). It had Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart, and it was much better.
Latest review
This movie is mainly for children, but the problem is—if children go to the theater to see it, their parents have to go too, and it will be like torture for them!
So advice—don't go to the theater, watch it after it comes to OTT.
Rating: 5.5/10
Sometimes I wonder whether these figures they term as the budget are actually true or exaggerated because some of them just doesn't seem worth it. I was planning on watching it but based on some people's opinions I've heard I'm wondering whether it's worth it now.
I totally get what you mean. Sometimes the budget figures seem insanely high compared to what we actually see on screen. With Snow White, the $180M budget definitely doesn’t reflect in the final product. If you were planning to watch it, I’d say wait for its OTT release rather than spending money at the theater. It’s more of a kids’ movie, and if that’s not your thing, you might find it disappointing.
