In Argentina, there is an iconic place that many people know about and visit regularly year after year. Visiting the Basilica of Luján is something that leaves a lasting impression, and I'm not talking about religion. When you enter the city, the houses and the neighborhood itself are not so different from most municipalities in Argentina. But when you come across that imposing tower pointing to the sky, you are left speechless. It's as if they were saying, “Hey, important things happened and continue to happen here.”

! [Spanish] En Argentina existe un emblemático lugar que muchos conocen y que es visitado asiduamente año tras año. Visitar la basílica de Luján es algo que te deja marcado y no hablo en lo religioso. Cuando ingresas a la ciudad, las casas y el barrio en sí no es tan diferente a como son en la mayoría de municipios en la Argentina. Pero cuando te encuentras con esa imponente torre apuntando al cielo, te quedas con la boca abierta. Es como si te estuvieran diciendo, che, acá pasaron y pasan cosas importantes.

      Entering the place is truly otherworldly, or at least that's how I felt. The light streaming through the stained-glass windows, the soaring ceilings, the details in every corner. It doesn't matter if you're a believer or not, there's something about this place that envelops you. An incredible sense of peace, energy, and history. A combination that hits you in a way that's hard to explain. I was able to go inside and try to take some photos, but the crowd of parishioners sometimes prevented me from doing so, which is why I had to clean up the images quite a bit.

! [Spanish] Entrar al lugar es realmente de otro mundo, o por lo menos eso es lo que yo sentí. La luz que se cuela por los vitrales, los techos altísimos, los detalles en cada rincón. No importa si eres creyente o no, hay algo en ese lugar que te envuelve. Una paz increíble, energía e historia. Un combo que te pega de una forma que es difícil de explicar. Pude ingresar e intentar realizar capturas, pero la multitud de feligreses en ocasiones no me permitían y es por eso que tuve que limpiar bastante las imágenes.

      Before entering, I bought an empty half-liter bottle, because if there is one thing in abundance in the surrounding area, it is businesses, most of which are related to faith and, of course, gastronomy. I bought a bottle so I could fill it with water at a specific place for that purpose, and in the church courtyard, in the middle of the crowd, there was a priest blessing people and anything else you might want to bless. I understand that he does this at a specific time, and I happened to be there at that moment and was able to have the water blessed to bring back to my family.

[Spanish] Antes de ingresar me compré una botellita de medio litro vacía, porque también si hay algo en los alrededores, son negocios abundantes y todo o la mayoría referido a la fe y por supuesto a la gastronomía. Compré una botellita, para luego cargarlo de agua en un lugar específico para eso, y en el patio de la iglesia, en medio de la multitud, estaba un cura bendiciendo a las personas y a todo lo que quieras bendecir. Tengo entendido que lo hace en un horario específico y casualmente coincidí en ese instante y pude bendecir el agua para traerlo a mi familia.

      When you go out, the town of Luján feels like it embraces you. Streets lined with old houses that seem to come from another era, vendors offering everything from rosaries to fried cakes (which, by the way, you can't miss trying). Everything has an air of tradition and closeness that makes you feel at home. However, I understand that I only explored 50% of the entire area. I heard about the Luján River and the excursions that take place both high up and in the basements of the church and the various convents in the surrounding area, which also have visiting days. Reason enough to return to Luján.

! [Spanish] Cuando salís, el pueblo de Luján es como que te abraza. Calles con casas antiguas que parecen salidas de otra época, vendedores ofreciendo desde rosarios hasta tortas fritas (que, por cierto, no puedes dejar de probar). Todo tiene aire de tradición y cercanía que te hace sentir en casa. Igualmente, tengo entendido que recorrí tan solo el 50% de todo el espacio que tiene dicho lugar. Me hablaron del río Luján, y las excursiones que se hacen tanto en las alturas como en los sótanos de la iglesia y de los distintos conventos que existen en sus alrededores, que también tienen días para visitarlo. Motivo suficiente para volver a Luján.

      I remember the first time I went to the basilica, and I did it on foot. From Liniers in Buenos Aires to the basilica, I think it's more than 66 km, and I did it just because my brother invited me. I didn't have any promises to keep or any special requests. I simply went to accompany my brother, and since then, I go back whenever I can, and I almost always do it by bike, as I did on this occasion.

! [Spanish] Recuerdo la primera vez que fui hacia la basílica y lo hice caminando. Desde liniers en Buenos Aires hasta la basílica, creo que hay más de 66 km y lo hice tan solo por una invitación de mi hermano. No tenía ninguna promesa que cumplir ni a ningún pedido especial. Simplemente, fui a acompañar a mi hermano y desde ahí cada vez que puedo vuelvo, y casi normalmente lo hago en bicicleta cómo fue en esta ocasión.

     It is a worthwhile trip, not only to pray or fulfill a promise, but to enjoy a complete experience. Architecture that captivates, warm people, and an atmosphere that invites you to stay a little longer. Even if you just sit in the square looking at the basilica from afar, you will find many answers in your reflections, but undoubtedly also many questions.

! [Spanish] Es un paseo que vale la pena, no solo para rezar o cumplir una promesa, sino para vivir una experiencia completa. Arquitectura que enamora, gente cálida y una atmósfera que te invita a quedarte un rato más. Aunque sea sentado en la plaza mirando hacia la basílica desde lejos, encontrarás en tus reflexiones muchas respuestas pero sin duda también muchas preguntas.

      In the crowd, you will find all kinds of people: older people, young people, and children. We also saw people on motorcycles and people entering like us, dressed as cyclists. No one tells you that you can't enter, and I think that's valuable and very nice. It's a place where faith reigns everywhere, and so does hope.

! [Spanish] En la multitud encontrarás personas de todo tipo. Mayores, jóvenes y niños. Vimos también personas en motos y personas que ingresaban como nosotros, vestido de ciclistas. Nadie te dice que no puedes ingresar y eso creo que es valorable y muy bonito. Un lugar donde la fe, reina en todos lados y también la esperanza.

      When you walk through the corridors, every space has a piece of history and great significance. With all due respect, I am sharing some images with no intention of persuading anyone regarding any kind of beliefs.

      These places are part of our history, and we need to learn about them to understand where we come from and why we are who we are. Aesthetically, they are wonderful, but I can't say the same about the history. Because, honestly, I don't know anything about it. Still, I like to focus on what I see and what I feel in the moment.

      From my house to the site, I had to cycle 106 km, and believe me, it was worth it. I'm sure there are places like this in your town where you can go to learn, find out more, and soak up a little history.
