The Fighting Temptation (Movie Review)

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome 🤗

There are a few movies that I could watch over and over again without getting bored; Fighting Temptations happens to be one of them. I had long forgotten about this movie until it was aired on TV a few days ago.

MOVIE SUMMARY
The Fighting Temptations is an American musical movie that was released in the year 2003; it featured Beyoncé and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The movie is about Darrin (Cuba Gooding Jr.), who, after he was terminated from his workplace, returned to his hometown, Monte Carlo, for his Aunt Sally's funeral. After the burial, the Reverend told him that before he would be able to inherit his aunt's stock that she has in a company, she wrote down a will for him to direct the church choir and make them enter and win the annual "Gospel Explosion" competition.

Since the church choir wasn't doing well, Darrin needed to recruit new members, including Lily (Beyonce), his childhood friend, into the choir. Paulina, the Reverend's sister, was not happy that Darrin recruited this set of people, whom she feels were not worthy to sing and be a part of the church choir, so this made her quite from the choir.

While the choir was rehearsing for the competition, they were also ministering in the church; this made the church become more popular and have increased numbers in their membership.

MY REVIEW/OPINION
I love the movie, and I laughed so much at the scene where Darrin visited the barbershop and witnessed the impromptu singing of the three barbers. This was after Lilly had dropped her son there to get his hair cut, and her son asked them to sing for him. Darrin's facial expression was so funny; you could see the shock, surprise, and excitement on his face. It was as if he had stumbled upon a hidden treasure; he couldn't believe that the same guys he was asking about for good singers in the town were actually good themselves. This scene particularly stood out for me because it shows us that talents and potential can be found in the places we least expect, and most times they are closer to us than we can imagine or think.

the barbershop scene

The movie has a beautiful storyline; it portrays the struggles people go through in their daily lives. The experiences of the different characters are relatable, and the film sheds light on the harsh realities of judgment and criticism some people face. Paulina's character, in particular, shows us some of the judgmental attitudes that can be found in our homes, churches, and families. She's the embodiment of those who think they know what's best for others and feel they can dictate who is righteous or not.

RECOMMENDATION
I would recommend this movie because it's a good watch, it's fun, relaxing and you will have a good laugh. there's just something special about older movies that makes you want to watch them over again. The music was great too.

RATING
I would rate it 4/5
