A visit to my Maize farm

At weekend I had the privilege to visits maize farm to see the progress and the stage at which it is. As farmer it not enough to plant, weeds apply fertilizer and chemicals as the case may be, it also good that you visits your farm to see how the plants a performing. Crops are plant and plants are living things just like humans and other animals, they need to looked and checked upon at interval for effective performance.

It is on this that I took the time to see how one of my maize farm and other crops I planted are growing. This particular maize farm is the last I have planted of my farm as such faced some challenges. Birds crowded the farm at planting to pest on the germinating seedlings because it was the only farm at that moment which was newly tiled and planted. Due to pest and other challenges of climate, I had to reseed on the farm twice but to the glory of God there is an improvement in the growth of this crops.

After applying the last fertilizer the crops show significant growth. The maize is now at it’s vegetative and fruiting stage. On sighting the farm you can see that there are spaces where crops fail to germinate, other did but wilted and died for some reasons. One things I did after my last weeding in this farm was to plant beans in addition to maize and guinea for turning the farm into a mixed cropping system. I notice the beans didn’t perform well may be due to weather or lack of space for some because the maize and guinea corn have taken over the space for sun light thereby reducing the photosynthesis on the beans.

Overall am happy with the crops performance trusting that in no distance time it will be due for harvest. Thanks for reading
