My Holiday Experience - Easter To Remember

My Holiday Experience - Easter To Remember

The short break was quite interesting, I was able to spend some little time with family atleast, for a week and half. I have spent more time working outside home so the little Easter break was an opportunity for me to come check home atleast.

I arrived home and couldn't wait to join the band for rehearsals, I've missed that collective rehearsals we usually have and I took this opportunity to join them and create more pleasant memories with them once again..

The holiday started properly for me the next day which was Friday, it happens to be a free day, no rehearsals just at home together with my brothers. We had an interesting conversations, we discussed about the things we have accomplished so far this year and also the things that are left behind and yet tob be accomplished. I feel such type of conversations should be held in families seasonally not basically during end of the year gatherings as I've seen allot of families do.

We can come together as family atleast three times a year to discuss our progress and where we can come in for each other although, this might basically work only for some families because I understand distance, nature of job plus the magnitude of family relationship determines family gatherings as this. In our own case, it was just as we wanted it to be.

We went to the market after the meeting and purchased food items that will sustain us during the break and you know of course my favorite has to be on the list.

Whenever I go to the market the quantity of beans will always be more than rice unlike how most people do theirs.

One of my achievements during the short break was my visitation to my aunties houses, I visited 3 of my aunties because we've been in touch very well even while I was away.

The first one had 2 grown up kids with a baby. I felt happy seeing them again. One thing I love to do is to give out what I did expected during my childhood days and didn't get it, there's this family genuine connection that I missed it during childhood, everyone is up and doing with their lives and bother less about others.

1000543641.jpg

It became more terrible that I grew up looking after my own self, scaling through the hurdles of life from a very young age with very little support from family. I know my life isn't in my hands but I really don't want what happened to me to happen to my kids and family.

I exchanged pleasantries with aunt Mary from my father's side. She had told me about a petty business she was doing, she was selling grandnut cake and it was refreshing to see her running the petty business from home. I am a fan of grandnut cake, garri and sugar so I didn't hesitate to have one of my favorite with the kids.

I bought good quantity that will go very well with my garri.

My aunt almost refused accepting the money for the snack from me but I understand business ethics and I don't attach relationships with business, there are times I might need help, I know exactly how to go about it but I don't use family relationship as an avenue to take whatever I want because the business belongs to a family member, that will be insensible from my end and can crumble business.

Our nice meal ended well and of course as their uncle, I left the last portion of garri with milk for them.

The next visit was the day before Easter as I went to see Aunt Sarah from my mother's side. This was were the mixed feeling came in. At first, I was excited to see my aunt, by the way, she requested I come that particular day so together with my kid brother we can help her prepare three fowl for Christmas. I tried to come early that day because I have rehearsals with the boys brigade and also the music band of my church. We arrived Aunt Sarah's house and met Aunt Lydia already there helping with some of the work there too, It was indeed a happy moment sharing time with the extended family.

Aunt Lydia has 2 children with a little baby, Grace which happens to be the second child of Aunt Lydia came alongside her mum and the little baby boy, the eldest, Godwin was not opportune to come because he had to report to work that Saturday. We had a partial full house and so the we did division of labor in other to finish up on time.

We wanted to prepare 3 chickens that day with moi moi(Bean pudding) with Kunu gyeda (Grandnut milk mixed with rice gruel).

My aunt wanted to travel and deliver it to someone that very day and wanted us to help her out with the chaos.
It didn't take too much time and everything was set for consumption. We were the first consumers by the way, we were served with the Kunu gyada (Grandnut milk mixed with rice gruel).

How Kunu gyeda(Grandnut milk mixed with rice gruel) looks like.
It goes very well with either Akara (bean fritters) or moi moi (bean pudding).

In this case our Aunty prepared hers with Bean Pudding, she ganished the beans pudding very well, she added cooked egg in the middle to spice it up and trust me this meal was super delicious.

It was indeed a beautiful moment having this good home with family. We enjoyed the meal together while be gathering the strength to prepare 3 chicken that same day.

We had a good time until when it was time for us to prepare the chickens and something heart breaking happened. I will be dropping the second part of My Holiday experience in my next post. Thank you very much for reading through, see you when next...

What a heartwarming writeup but I am a bit confused though, what is groundnut cake because the only thing I saw that's remotely related to groundnut is kulikuli 🤣🤣🤣
So even kulikuli get English name
It's good to spend holidays with our loved ones though. Creating memories is a must

I believe if you keep calling it kulikuli they surely get the message after all there are a lot of things that don't have English names but we still call them by their original names
