First of all, I am glad that the earthquake did not directly affect you or your family. Nature strikes with its force and, as you say, it puts us in our place and reminds us how small we are and how important it is to make the most of every minute.
In my country, we don't have the custom of celebrating death anniversaries, funerals, or burials with food, so I always find it curious when I see it. I think it's a beautiful way to honour the absent person, sharing that time together remembering his life in an atmosphere of communion.
I am familiar with the custom of novenas, although here they are mainly held to celebrate the patron saints or virgins of towns, not individuals.
I see that inflation is high everywhere and I am sorry that you had to do without catering this year. It is natural that you ended up exhausted. But let me tell you that the food looks delicious and I love the presentation. You can be satisfied with the result of your efforts.

I totally agree with you, Hive has a very well-designed structure, better than any other platform or ecosystem, and it is also solid and stable. The ending of your story is impressive, but not only that, it stays in the mind of the reader, who imagines that ending, since it could lead to many things. My friend, both the photographs and your poetic way of writing about that unforgettable day for you are so beautiful. Christmas always brings important moments, and the different annual decorations leave us with different photos and make us remember it as a beautiful anecdote. I believe we ourselves create our own Christmas atmosphere; no matter how many lights or decorations we have, if we don't feel it in our hearts, it doesn't matter what's around us. You're going to have to explain to me what taking a holiday from your holiday means. 😂 It means making the most of your travels and your time. How wonderful that fate led you to be present at such a special moment. Not to mention that you were in your element there, surrounded by quacks. The venue looks spectacular and I've only ever seen tables laid out so beautifully at big celebrations, so it must have been a great party. Thank goodness you had a dedicated beer waiter to keep you from going thirsty. As for the food, this time I'm going to surprise you and not stick to dessert. I'm a fan of pork cheeks, and I really like the presentation in tartlets. You did well not to mix drinks and to stick to your beer; the next day, your body will thank you for it.

That little dog's smile is what caught my attention, and then when I saw the fourth photo and the expression on its face, I honestly couldn't resist. I'll admit that I'm a cat person, always have been, but these little faces are so expressive. You managed to capture with your camera the exact moment when they wanted to say something, I'm sure of it.
Plus, the black and white contrast made each of the shots and their expressions even more special. They bring companionship and happiness to many people, and many need them, which I understand perfectly because it happens to me every day.
