First of all, warm greetings to all members of the community. Today I want to tell you about the garlic planting, which I did at home.

Antes que nada, cordiales saludos a todos los miembros de la comunidad. Hoy quiero hablarles de la siembra de ajos, que realicé en casa.

Actually, I had devoted a lot of time and space to the planting and care of the decorative plants in the apartment. But after I started to see how food prices skyrocketed, because of sanctions, tariffs and climate problems, I decided, to see if I can start producing some everyday food at home.

En realidad, le había dedicado mucho tiempo y espacio a físico a la siembra y el cuidado de las plantas decorativas en el apartamento. Pero después de empezar a ver cómo se dispararon los precios de los alimentos, por las sanciones, los aranceles y los problemas climáticos, decidí, ver si puedo empezar a producir algunos alimentos de uso diario en casa.

And there are certain edible plants and vegetables that I can plant in the apartment and see how their production works in small quantities. Thinking, that if the production is good, to look for a way to produce more, in the little physical space I have.

Y hay ciertas plantas y hortalizas comestibles que puedo ir sembrando en el apartamento y ver cómo funciona su producción en cantidades pequeñas. Pensando, que si se da bien la producción, buscar la forma de producir más, en el poco espacio físico que tengo.

But the truth is that now, I must make more effort in the production and planting of food and medicinal plants, given that the reality of the country and worldwide, indicates that food and medicines will be increasingly expensive. An article I read, talks about that it is very possible that food will rise continuously from now on.

Pero lo cierto es que ahora, debo esforzarme más en la producción y siembra de plantas alimenticias y medicinales, dado que la realidad del país y a nivel mundial, indica que los alimentos y las medicinas serán cada vez más costosos. Un artículo que leí, habla de que es muy posible que los alimentos suban de manera continúa a partir de ahora.

So, we have to diversify our garden and get the most out of it that we can.

Planting the garlic. / Plantando el ajo:

One of the first things I asked myself, was what was the best way to plant garlic, and there are several ways to do it, but in the end I decided on a method that I saw in a video, which accompanied an article.

Una de las primeras cosa que me pregunté, fue cuál era la mejor forma de plantar el ajo, y hay varias formas de hacerlo, pero al final me decidí por un método que vi en un video, que acompañaba un artículo.

So what I did, was to chop a garlic in half, and place and sow it, on the part where the root comes out.

Así que lo que hice, fue picar un ajo por la mitad, y colocar y sembrarlo, por la parte donde sale la raíz.

Once I planted the garlic, I placed it in a place where it wouldn't get much sun, and I poured water on it when I saw that the soil was drying up, every other day. I was like that for almost two weeks, until the stem started to grow.

Una vez que sembré el ajo, lo coloque en un lugar donde no le pegara mucho sol, y le echaba agua cuando veía que la tierra se secaba, cada dos día. Así estuve casi dos semanas, hasta que empezó a crecer el tallo.

When the stem came out, I put the garlic, on the balcony in a part where it would get a lot of sun and watered it for another week and a half, until the stem grew a little more.

Cuando el tallo salió, puse el ajo, en el balcón en una parte donde recibiese mucho sol y lo regué por una semana y media más, hasta que el tallo creció un poco más.

Now, that the garlic had root and stem, I decided to sow it. But I did it by making a self-watering pot.

Ahora, que el ajo tenía raíz y tallo, decidí sembrarlo. Pero lo hice haciendo una maceta de autorriego.

To make the planter, I took a plastic soda bottle, chopped it in half, and attached a strip of cotton cloth fabric to it, and left one piece of fabric facing out and the rest with a stretch that covered the entire bottle.

Para hacer la maceta, tomé una botella plástica de refresco, la piqué por la mitad, y le coloqué una tira de tela de paño de algodón, y deje un pedazo de tela hacia afuera y el resto con un tramo que cubriera toda la botella.

Then, I prepared the soil, which is a mixture of black soil, with a brown soil with stones, which I brought from the vegetable garden of my uncle's house and compost.

Después, preparé la tierra, la cual es una mezcla de tierra negra, con una tierra que tierra marrón con piedras, que traje de la huerta de la casa de mi tío y compost.

I mixed everything and refilled the bottle, then sowed the garlic.

Mezclé todo y rellené la botella, para luego sembrar el ajo.

Finally, I sowed the two heads of garlic with their roots, and waited five days, to see if the self-watering system worked well.

Finalmente, sembré las dos cabezas de ajo con sus raíces, y esperé cinco días, para ver si funcionaba bien el sistema de autorriego.

On the third day, I had to put water, since the little plants had consumed it, so I put water, and waited for the fifth day, to take the photo and make this post.

Al tercer día, tuve que poner agua, ya que las plantitas la había consumido, así que coloqué agua, y esperé al quinto día, para tomar la foto y hacer este post.

From what I read, now I have to wait between 10 and 12 weeks, for the garlic heads, to be born and ready to be harvested and for consumption.

Por lo que leí, ahora debo esperar entre 10 y 12 semanas, para que las cabezas de ajo, nazcan y estén listas para ser cosechadas y para el consumo.

In that self-watering pot, there are two little garlic plants, I did not put more, since those two plants have enough space to grow and develop without problems.

En esa maceta de autorriego, hay dos plantitas de ajo, no puse más, ya que esas dos plantas tienen suficiente espacio para crecer y desarrollarse sin problemas.
