Muchas personas creemos en la medicina natural; de hecho, yo recuerdo mucho que cuando era un joven entrenado a los 20 y estaba como misionero seglar capuchino, observaba cómo las personas de las zonas indígenas preparaban diferentes tipos de infusiones para diferentes afecciones.

Y un amigo muy querido, el Padre Adrían, siempre me decía que la medicina natural servía para todo tipo de situaciones, pero, y siempre hay un pero, que en el caso de infecciones o enfermedades graves, lo mejor siempre era la medicina criolla.

Refiriéndose con esta frase a la medicina dada en las universidades y con especializaciones en la atención de diferentes tipos de enfermedades. Y mi sabio amigo siempre tuvo la razón en ese tipo de cosas.

Sin embargo, uno muchas veces incurre en errores en el tema de salud; aun sabiendo que hay enfermedades y situaciones de salud que deben ser atendidas por un médico, uno comete el error de automedicarse o de seguir la sugerencia de terceros.

Y eso fue lo que me pasó con una molestia en el oído. El problema comenzó con una picazón y una molestia continua, y al comentar que iba al médico, una vecina que trabajó como enfermera me recomendó un remedio casero, y aunque yo no le tuve nada de fe al remedio, ella insistió y dijo: “Pruébalo y ya verás cómo te alivia”.

Lo cierto es que realmente el remedio no me ayudó y terminé yendo al médico, el cual me regañó por automedicarme y provocarme una infección en el oído, y ahora terminé de reposo, regañado y con un tratamiento con medicamentos para tratar el dolor y la infección.

The problem started with an itch and a continuous discomfort, and commenting that I was going to the doctor, a neighbor who worked as a nurse recommended a home remedy, and although I had no faith in the remedy, she insisted and said: “Try it and you'll see how it relieves you.”

The truth is that the remedy really didn't help me and I ended up going to the doctor, who scolded me for self-medicating and causing an ear infection, and now I ended up resting, scolded and with a treatment with medications to treat the pain and the infection.
