Revelation of self, A reintroduction.
Hello, my fellow Hivians (Hive members),
Sammy Kay here @osknewera. Sending you greetings and love from Nigeria. Before I continue, I want to make something very clear, this post here, is a re introductory post. I have made a previous intro post but truly I wasn't satisfied with the contents I put down (link: https://hive.blog/hive/@osknewera/a-jjc-newbie-has-joined-the-hive-platform).
My issue then was, I was (still) a newbie, I didn't know much about the platform, so I didn't know how much info to share. I kept it short because I didn't want to bore or overwhelm you guys. The previous intro post was superficial, and half measured. I didn't go as deep and shared as much as I would have loved too. So, I asked a fellow hive member (@sam9999) if it's okay to make a re-introductory post that's more intensive than the previous one. He explained to me that it can be done but I need to be transparent and honest about it so I wouldn't appear as though I had other intentions. I want to use hive as a means of expressing myself and my arts, and I want to make sure that I have established my identity very well. Some of my art forms are created from my own experience and I would like to share some of them with you guys. In my previous intro post, I briefly stated that I studied aviation science in school, but due to some family crisis, I couldn't finish.
More About Me
Here in this post, I want to dive deeper into it and let you guys in on my journey. My name is Owoyemi Samuel Kayode and I'm 26 years old. Right now, I'm an artist and a writer, but three years ago, I couldn't draw for nothing, and I hadn't unlocked my writing potentials. Yes, I studied aviation science at Aviation Technology institute, located at Obafemi Awolowo university, also at international college of aeronautics and did my Internship at Aero-contractors Airline in Nigeria. I gained admission into ATI in 2016, did 1year diploma course, then I requested for transfer to ICA which was in Lagos then. Since they had better facilities and equipment and also, they had a partnership agreement with some local airports. I studied there for a year too, then I went on to do my Internship at Aero-contractors. My internship lasted for seven months.
Check out some of my old school pictures below,
This was during a field trip, I remember taking this picture because it was my first time on the airport tarmac, the authorities can be very strict with the rules and guidelines, but I was very lucky on that faithful day.
This picture was taken right after we finished a lecture. The guy on the right is Norheem.
Me and some friends I made during my IT at the airport. I remember we took this picture on a Friday, we normally don't get together like this, cause on Fridays we're usually looking forward to going home and starting the weekend, but it just happened. We shocked ourselves that day when we co-operated and took the photo, Smiles.
Hmm... This picture you're looking at is very special to me. I took this picture during a period in my life when I was experiencing major storm and trauma. It was a period of uncertainty, when everything for me was 50/50, Life or death. But I thank God for giving me a second chance. So, when I see this photo, I look back and see the gracious hand of God. It's special because it contains both bitter and sweet memories. It holds meaning for me. Also, the plane I'm sitting on in the photo is my favorite airplane in the whole world, Bombardier CRJ900. It's one of the most aerodynamically stable planes in the world.
Wow, I feel emotional when I look at this. Life is unpredictable guys. All my friends in this photo I've lost touch with except one, the guy holding the camera. Life has taken us in different directions now.
I love this picture very much. Kudos to Michael, the pose was my idea, but his capture was very timely and on point. We just finished performing a C-section on a Boeing 737-300. The area we took this picture was in the tail section. It's way back behind the airplane. While we were there our little weight was moving the plane a little bit cause the landing gear was so far away from it.
Nothing much to say about this photo, just me chilling during my free time. Oh, the airplane that's directly behind me was taxing to the runway for takeoff. While I was sitting down for the pose, my ears were literally ringing off. I couldn't hear a thing except the noise of the plane. It's a charter airplane.
Smiles, I went a little creative with the edit here in this picture, but it still looks alright to me, what do you think? I can never forget Aero-contractors in my life. My experience there was wonderful to say the least. It was very challenging, but I worked hard, and I was able to cope.
This picture was also taken on a Friday. During the week, we barely have time for pictures, everybody is super focused and serious. But Fridays are usually a bit relaxing, people ease up a bit and we can take the time to take some nice-looking pictures. No wonder people always say TGIF. Smiles.
Forgive the picture quality, we took this picture in a haste, hence the poor quality. We weren't supposed to be in the cockpit of this particular plane cause the engineers were still performing system checks and overhauling. We almost got caught but we didn't. That's Michael, I mentioned him earlier. He was the one who took most of my pictures. He was my buddy back then. He's more energetic compared to me, always thinking of mischievous things to do at work. His ideas were always raw and trouble seeking in nature, smiles. But till date I still remember him fondly.
There were ups and downs but largely it was a great and positive experience for me. My initial goal was to study to become a pilot, but along the way my family ran into some crisis which affected me and my studies, which halted everything for me. Even though I was offered 50% scholarship, I still couldn't further. Those were really dark days for me. Days when the sky was

During the lock down period, she was the one that instigated the passion of drawing and painting in me. At first it was like a joke, something to use to kill time, but later I got really good at drawing, that she was amazed and surprised with the talent I was displaying. If you want to see some of my drawings check out this link: https://hive.blog/@osknewera.
She encouraged me to start practicing face portraits and told me to keep developing the skill. Over time, people also started noticing, some of my friends I went to school with, couldn't believe I could make art as beautiful as that. I told them practice always makes perfect. Since then, I have decided to use art as a way of expressing my thoughts, feelings and experiences. The purpose behind this post is to share a bit of my story and let you guys know that nothing is truly impossible. When I first started, I wasn't bad, but I wasn't good either, at best I was average. But I kept practicing and drawing. Eventually I got better and better. The things we think we cannot do, things we think are beyond us are so because we believe we can't. If you're willing to fail in order to succeed,,,,hmmm.... The power in that, is transformational. Literally nothing will be able to stop you. I hope you find this post helpful or at the least, interesting. I will be using my blog to post my artworks and some of my writings I wish to share. So, make sure to check back @osknewera. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Have a wonderful day at your side.

To an extent I believe you have had quite an adventurous life. The shift in your career plan might be unexpected but what matters is you found another passion. I guess the pandemic did you a lot favour compared to everyone else. I wish you the best of luck in your hive blog endeavours.
Thanks man, really appreciate it 💯
Sammy Kay! hehe Nice to meet you
I actually just went back and read your first intro and it was perfectly fine! Not superficial at all - but you're right - this one was a lot more vulnerable and invited us to get to know you more.
I've also seen your artwork... I can't believe that you didn't know that you could do that. hahaha It's very impressive!
You know - there were a lot of us that had Covid come into our lives and actually bring some unusual blessings! I'm one of them - and now I see you are too.
That was a great perspective to have... that God allowed you to catch up during that time, and though some people might think it sounds selfish - I think it sounds like you were grateful to God in all things.
I think you have a beautiful outlook on life - and even though you went through some dark times, you've seen the power in moving forward and taking hold of what's before you. I found this post inspiring! Hope that you keep writing and engaging well!
Wow, thank you. I'm glad you feel inspired by this. More inspiring stories and art are still to come. 🙏
looking forward to it :)
