Bueno mis amigos, ayer mi esposa me asignó una tarea, la cual consiste en restaurar una vieja repisa de madera la cual ya había perdido el brillo por lo que no lucía muy bien, de manera que tengo que tratar de cambiarle su apariencia para que luzca atractiva.

Esta repisa tiene su historia, ya que hace unos 34 a 35 años, fuimos a una mueblería a comprar una cama matrimonial y el señor de la mueblería nos ofreció un regalo por dicha compra y entre tantas cosas mi esposa escogió esa repisa, la verdad es que era muy bonita, luego se la regalamos a mi hija y el año pasado mi hija se mudó de la casa para un apartamento y nos devolvió la repisa, así que esta repisa ha estado de aquí y de allá, jajaja... pero jamás la tiraremos a la basura...

El trabajo consiste en lijar toda la madera de la repisa con lija grano 320 y 200, luego hay que flamear todo el borde de la madera con la llama de una vela, después de este paso, tengo que limpiar toda la superficie de la madera con la finalidad de eliminar las manchas del humo de la vela para proceder a la aplicación del barniz, después de cumplir con estos trabajos, quiero darle un toque decorativo a esta repisa, quizás le coloque en los bordes una linea de color dorado o plateado, todavía no tengo bien definido esta decoración, pero quiero colocarle algo que la haga atractiva, deja ver que se me ocurre.

The job involves sanding all the wood of the shelf with 320 and 200-grit sandpaper, then flaming the entire edge with a candle flame. After this step, I need to clean the entire wood surface to remove any candle smoke stains and then apply the varnish. After finishing this work, I want to give this shelf a decorative touch, perhaps adding a gold or silver line along the edges. I haven't quite nailed down this decoration yet, but I want to add something eye-catching to this coat rack. Let's see what I can come up with.

• Bueno amigos, esta repisa tenía dos ganchos para colgar ropa, por eso esta repisa es tipo perchero, en realidad no se que pasó con estos ganchos, quizás se perdieron o se dañaron, lo cierto es le hacen falta, así que los voy a fabricar con madera, vean el trabajo:

Fabricando los ganchos:

• Lijado de la madera: Voy a lijar toda la madera con lija 320 y 200 para remover el barniz dañado ya que la superficie de la madera se ve con muchos rayones y manchas:

• Sanding the wood: I'm going to sand all the wood with 320 and 200 grit sandpaper to remove the damaged varnish since the surface of the wood looks very scratched and stained:

• Flameado de los bordes de la madera:
  Quiero darle un verdadero cambio a esta repisa, por lo que decidí quemar los bordes de la madera con la llama de una vela, procurando quemar levemente la superficie sin que se carbonice, así mismo se lo haré con el borde del espacio en forma de corazón.

• Flaming the Wood Edges:
  I wanted to give this mantel a real makeover, so I decided to burn the edges of the wood with a candle flame, trying to lightly burn the surface without charring it. I'll do the same with the edge of the heart-shaped space.

• Voy a limpiar toda la superficie de la madera para remover todas las manchas del humo de la vela para que dicha superficie quede lista para la aplicación del barniz caoba claro:

Bueno mis amigos, hasta el momento la restauración va bien, es evidente el cambio en la repisa, y eso que aun falta la aplicación del barniz y la instalación de los ganchos para colgar la ropa y los toques decorativos que le quiero hacer:

La verdad es que la repisa ha ido cambiando en la medida que se desarrolla el proyecto, les confieso que me gustó mucho el flameado que le hice a la madera con la llama de la vela, la repisa se ve espectacular, y mejor se verá cuando le instale los ganchos de madera, el barniz y otros toquecitos decorativos que le quiero hacer para que luzca más atractiva y señorial, así que pronto les mostrare el acabado definitivo, saludos.
