ON FRUITFUL MENTORSHIP

Hello beautiful people. Few days ago, my conversation with an Associate Professor of Mathematics (who got to know me through my boss) left me with an indelible impression.

His words were that "Solomon, you are very fortunate to have a mentor in your career path." He added, "you may not understand what I am saying... If I had a mentor before now, I know I would be very far."

Note that the person who said those words to me has never had anyone top him in his academics. He had a First Class in his Bachelor of Science Degree, a Distinction in both M.Sc and PhD. Also, this man has enough material resources, at least for himself.

If a man who is very brilliant and doing well for himself is still lamenting and thanking God for a younger person who has a mentor, this shows of what he must have seen and the regret thereof.

It also accounts to the fact that whatever he is today, he would have been better if he had someone to look up to, someone who could be a guide, someone who could speak for him, someone who could plead his case on his behalf, someone who could teach him to catch more fishes.

In our time, most of us once we begin to grow, we feel we are above everyone, we think we can keep moving on our own. We have nobody to account to and nobody to hold us accountable or responsible.

The implication is that if God doesn't show you mercy, you will experience what is known as STUNTED GROWTH because there's nobody to groom you.

After reading this, take action. I have a mentor who is really helping me. I know how impactful he has been to my life.

In fact, even my mentor has a mentor whom he tells anyone that cares to listen that he wouldn't be where he is without the support and guidance of his mentor; so I speak to you out of experience.

Stop roaming like a lost sheep. Be accountable. Have someone to watch you grow. You will grow better.
