Portuguese Village - Fão - Esposende
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)
The best way to make children good is to make them happy.
"Oscar Wilde"
I saw this phrase when I was looking for a place to park in the town of Fão. I saw two elderly women sitting on a bench sunbathing in a small square and in the middle of them was a large cage. When I stopped the car, I went about my business and then came back hoping to still find them there. Time seemed to pass calmly and peacefully. I didn't hear any noise from cars or people and I took the camera outside to see what I would find.
The cage was full of birds (Agapones or Agapornis) of different colors and very sociable. As soon as I approached, they immediately met me and offered some treats through the network.
My husband's grandmother had a yellow, green and red one. Whenever we went to visit them, I liked to hold it and happily climb onto my shoulders, then onto my head and there I would happily observe those around me.
They decorated one of the walls of this square with vases full of flowers, everything was very clean and very well looked after.
On the facade of the parish council there is a large protest banner against its extinction.
I followed the alleys to see where they were taking me and the sound of the seagulls that seemed to be in a meeting.
I came across a small sanctuary called "As Alminhas do Cais", right next to the fire station. This place pays tribute to the victims of a tragedy that occurred when a passing ferry sank.
I continued to the foot of the river where we can see the D. Luís Filipe Bridge. Along the riverbank, there is a corridor that allows us to walk and travel a few kilometers filled with nature.
The little boats were moored there waiting for the weekend to take their owners on a nice walk or fishing trip.
When I looked to the left I discovered where the seagulls were gathering. A small island in the middle of the river with the town's letters appears to be the meeting point for these friends. I took advantage of a bench facing the river and stayed there recharging my energy for the return journey.
A beautiful place, which brought me a few minutes of peace and sunshine that lasted my life! Sometimes we need to be alone, in silence to be able to hear ourselves, or even disconnect a little from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Before leaving, I took the opportunity to do the opposite route and came across the Igreja Matriz de Fão. Everything is being prepared for Easter and cleaning and decorations are in full swing.
Around here, usually on Sunday (in some villages it's the Monday) we receive the compass and then everyone gets together for lunch or a snack.
I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
