A peek at Tea House and the Boa Nova Chapel - Leça da Palmeira
Hello, and welcome to my blog :)
As mentioned in the last post, I'm here to show you the end of our tour around Leça da Palmeira (the most beautiful land in Portugal, as the song says) 😊
I'm not a religious person, but I believe there's someone up there looking out for us, or at least for me. Often, I find myself asking for everything to go well, other times for a sign that the path I've chosen is the right one, and sometimes I just wonder if it's really up there or if it's just the need to believe so. I'm not sure how to explain it well, but if I believe that there's someone listening to me, it's valid for everyone to believe in what brings them peace of mind.
We spotted the Boa Nova Chapel from afar and decided to visit. Located on a small cliff overlooking the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, it offers a breathtaking view. The waves were breaking down below, creating a beautiful melody that invited us to stay a little longer and just contemplate. Many people passing by were lighting candles, some were praying, and others simply sat listening to the sea.
I decided to go inside, but out of respect for those present, I refrained from taking photographs. This chapel was built in 1392, but it's certain that there had previously been another church or monastery at this location in honor of St. Clement of the Cliffs. Inside, right in the center of the altar, there's an image of Our Lady of Good Hour flanked by the images of St. John the Baptist and St. Clement.
Right in front of the chapel, there's the Boa Nova Windmill, often unnoticed by many, but according to history, it belonged to the Convent of São Clemente. Many, especially during the summer, considered this place a parking spot, and for that reason, it was fenced off to make people aware that what stands there is a piece of history (our history).
After meditating for a while, we decided to continue our stroll towards the Tea House, a charming place located north of the chapel, offering a cozy retreat for visitors and an incredible view.
This restaurant, tea house, is located in one of the buildings designed by the architect Álvaro de Siza Vieira and has been classified as a National Monument since 2011.
Once inside, we were greeted by a tranquil and welcoming atmosphere. The simple yet elegant decoration blended perfectly with the natural landscape around. We chose a spot by the window to enjoy the spectacular view of the sea while having a coffee to end the afternoon.
The sunset's light streaming through the windows brought a sense of peace and tranquility, providing a moment of relaxation and contemplation after visiting the chapel.
As the sun slowly disappeared, we left the Tea House with a feeling of serenity and gratitude for this experience. We walked back along the cobblestone path that led to some playful moments and laughter.
I cherish every detail of these tours and the joy they bring me, filling my heart with happiness!
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
