Hay una historia antigua que me dejó pensando durante días.
La historia cuenta que, en un palacio real, una rata se tragó el diamante más valioso del rey. ¿Te lo podéis imaginar?
El monarca, furioso, llamó al mejor cazador del reino. Cuando el hombre llegó al sótano donde vivían las ratas, vio algo curioso: más de cien estaban juntas, moviéndose como un solo cuerpo. Pero había una distinta. Estaba sola, rígida, apartada del grupo.
El cazador fue directo hacia ella.
Y sí, esa tenía el diamante.
Cuando el rey le preguntó cómo lo supo, respondió con calma:
— Cuando los tontos se enriquecen, se aíslan.
La primera vez que leí esa historia pensé: ¡qué frase tan dura!
La segunda vez pensé: ¡qué frase tan verdadera!
Pero hoy quiero hablar sin señalar a nadie. Ni siquiera a “los tontos”.
Quiero hablar de algo más honesto:
A veces, el éxito nos cambia… y no nos damos cuenta.
Y no estoy hablando solo de millones. A veces basta con que nos empiece a ir un poco mejor. Algo como un ascenso, un negocio que despega. Un ingreso que sube o un simple reconocimiento.
Y, casi sin notarlo, empezamos a cambiar la forma en que miramos a los demás.
Recuerdo a un conocido que empezó a ganar muy bien. Trabajó duro, y nadie puede negarlo. Pero algo pasó en el proceso. Ya no contestaba mensajes, ya no tenía tiempo para reuniones sencillas. Comenzó a hablar de “mi nivel”, “mi círculo”... “mi estándar”.
No se volvió mala persona; No estoy hablando de eso, solo se volvió distante, y la distancia, cuando nace del ego, es una forma silenciosa de pobreza.
El dinero no es el problema. El dinero es solo un amplificador. Si eres generoso, te permite ser más generoso. Si eres inseguro, te da herramientas para esconderlo detrás de una fachada.
La verdadera riqueza no te obliga a alejarte de tu origen, sino que te da la oportunidad de honrarlo. ¿Ves la diferencia?
No se trata de quedarte donde empezaste porque crecer es necesario. Evolucionar también. Cambiar de entorno, aprender cosas nuevas, ampliar tu visión… todo eso es sano y es digno de elogio.

El problema es olvidar:
Olvidar quién eras cuando no tenías nada.
Olvidar quién estuvo contigo cuando no había resultados.
Olvidar que el éxito es circunstancial, pero el carácter es permanente.
La rata no fue descubierta por tener el diamante, pues, ni siquiera lo estaba exhibiendo, sino que fue descubierta por su actitud.
Eso es lo que más me inquieta.
No es lo que tienes... Es cómo te comportas cuando lo tienes.
Hoy me hago una pregunta incómoda, y te la quiero compartir:
Si mañana me va mucho mejor… ¿seguiré siendo accesible?
¿Seguiré escuchando?
¿Seguiré saludando con la misma humildad?
Porque si el crecimiento me separa de mi esencia, de lo que realmente soy, entonces no estoy creciendo… solo estoy inflándome.
Y todo lo que se infla sin profundidad, tarde o temprano explota.
El éxito verdadero no hace ruido. Construye.
No se aísla. Integra.
No desprecia. Eleva.
Quizá la enseñanza no es “no seas la rata”.
Quizá es algo más simple:
Si la vida te entrega un diamante, no te sientes en una esquina fría.
Siéntate en la mesa con los tuyos… y comparte la luz.

There is an ancient story that left me thinking for days.
The story goes that, in a royal palace, a rat swallowed the king's most valuable diamond. Can you imagine it?
The monarch, furious, called the best hunter in the kingdom. When the man reached the basement where the rats lived, he saw something curious: more than a hundred were together, moving as a single body. But there was a different one. She was alone, rigid, apart from the group.
The hunter went straight towards her.
And yes, that one had the diamond.
When the king asked him how he knew, he calmly replied:
—When fools get rich, they isolate themselves.
The first time I read that story I thought: what a harsh sentence!
The second time I thought: what a true phrase!
But today I want to speak without pointing fingers at anyone. Not even “the fools.”
I want to talk about something more honest:
Sometimes success changes us... and we don't realize it.
And I'm not just talking about millions. Sometimes it is enough for us to start doing a little better. Something like a promotion, a business that takes off. An income that goes up or a simple recognition.
And, almost without realizing it, we begin to change the way we look at others.
I remember an acquaintance who started earning very well. He worked hard, and no one can deny that. But something happened in the process. I no longer answered messages, I no longer had time for simple meetings. He began to talk about “my level”, “my circle”… “my standard”.
He didn't become a bad person; I'm not talking about that, he just became distant, and distance, when born from ego, is a silent form of poverty.
Money is not the problem. Money is just an amplifier. If you are generous, it allows you to be more generous. If you are insecure, it gives you tools to hide it behind a facade.
True wealth does not force you to distance yourself from your origin, but rather gives you the opportunity to honor it. Do you see the difference?
It's not about staying where you started because growing is necessary. Evolve too. Changing your environment, learning new things, expanding your vision... all of this is healthy and worthy of praise.
The problem is not growing, my dear invisible friends, a phrase that Arturo Uslar Pietri constantly said
The problem is forgetting:
Forget who you were when you had nothing.
Forgetting who was with you when there were no results.
Forget that success is circumstantial, but character is permanent.
The rat was not discovered because he had the diamond, well, he was not even displaying it, but rather he was discovered because of his attitude.
That's what worries me the most.
It's not what you have... It's how you behave when you have it.
Today I ask myself an uncomfortable question, and I want to share it with you:
If things go much better tomorrow... will I still be accessible?
Will I continue listening?
Will I continue greeting with the same humility?
Because if growth separates me from my essence, from who I really am, then I'm not growing... I'm just inflating.
And everything that inflates without depth sooner or later explodes.
True success does not make noise. Build.
It is not isolated. Integra.
He does not despise. Elevate
Maybe the teaching is not “don't be the rat.”
Maybe it's something simpler:
If life hands you a diamond, don't sit in a cold corner.
Sit at the table with your loved ones… and share the light.

Muy buena reflexión, dicen que si nos dan poder nos conocerán, y sí, seguramente seremos tan básicos para cumplir con el dicho, se subirán los humos, también dicen. Recordé una persona que me hablaba de su estatus como algo muy especial, le recriminaba eso y terminó alejándose, ni siquiera se había tragado el diamante, no, solamente cayó en el lugar común de lo que dice la gente.
