When was the last time you sent ( or received) FAX?

Reminds me the days, when FAX mashines were not yet seen by most people in my country.
In 1990 I purchased one FAX machine in USA, brought back home to Lithuania to sell it.
Made a ~500% profit that time !

Only 35 years ago ...

Awesome profit! 🤩 I don't think I've ever used a fax, was so young when those were a thing and then mobile phones & email came.

The internet ruined me... My first thought was that FAX here meant the online slang for "Facts" but you actually meant the FAX Machine...

Wow, that’s a solid hustle!

Back when tech arbitrage was real, buy in the West, flip in the East for 5x! Respect for catching that wave early.

FAX may be ancient now, but back then?

That was next-level connectivity.

More than a decade that I used a fax.

FAX was never popular in Libya, and with the success of Smartphones, it may never be...

Fax Invention

The fax, or facsimile, has a long history dating back to 1843 when Alexander Bain, a Scottish inventor, patented the first fax machine. However, the modern fax machine as we know it today was developed in the 1960s.

The first commercial fax machines were released in the 1960s, with the Xerox company introducing the first commercial fax service in 1966.

For more information on the history of fax machines, you can check out this link for a detailed overview.

Early Fax Technology

Alexander Bain's 1843 fax machine used a scanning device to transmit images over telegraph lines. It worked by using a stylus to scan an image, which was then transmitted as a series of electrical impulses.

The receiving device would then use these impulses to recreate the image on a piece of paper coated with a chemical solution, allowing the image to be reproduced. This early technology was the precursor to modern fax machines.

Bain's invention was groundbreaking for its time, and it paved the way for the development of more advanced fax technology in the years to come.

Key Milestones

  • 1843: Alexander Bain patents the first fax machine
  • 1960s: Modern fax machines are developed
  • 1980s: Fax machines become widely used in businesses and homes

The first commercial fax services were launched in the 1960s, but it wasn't until the 1980s that fax machines became a common sight in offices and homes.
