Who will win?

So I was bored one day and decided to have a contest. I'm pretty sure that's how most contests are conceived.

The Contest:

If given a choice between four different nuts, which one would the squirrels choose the most?

The Stakes:

The winner will be crowned the Ultimate Nut of my backyard for 2025.

The Contestants:

Almonds - Even though they are technically classified as a seed, almonds will forever be a nut to me. At least for the sake of this contest. Otherwise, I don't really care. More importantly, almonds are extremely good for you and come in a plethora of palate-pleasing flavors. I currently have some that are covered in dark chocolate.

Hazelnuts - Nutella. Ferrero Rocher. Need I say more?

Pecans - Pecans are the nut I probably eat the least. When I do eat them, I usually just eat them raw. I did eat some really good pecan pancakes at a diner once. The portion was so large that, according to legend, I'm still eating them to this very day.

Walnuts - The veteran of the group, walnuts are one of the oldest plant-based foods known to humans. I'm particularly fond of them raw or as an addition to homemade chocolate chip cookies.

The Results

That the result was so close isn't a surprise to me. The real surprise is with how poorly pecans performed in the challenge. No squirrel has ever turned down a pecan or walnut when offered directly. However, they have turned down almonds, hazelnuts and peanuts(who will make an appearance in next years contest).

     The final tally is as follows:
          walnuts - 4
          hazelnuts - 4
          almonds - 3
          pecans - 1

Pecans will have something to prove next time. And, how will the addition of peanuts shake thing up? We'll have to wait and see. The only thing that is for certain, is that the squirrels are the real winners. Always.
