5 Minute Freewrite: Entertain The Rabbit

When I saw today's #dailyprompt for the five-minute #freewrite, I knew I had to write my first one in years. "Entertain The Rabbit". I mean, I've been entertaining the resident rabbits for a couple of years now. The wild rabbits that live around my yard, that is. I've never had a pet rabbit.

Earlier this week, I went out onto my patio and was greeted with a pleasant surprise...a little baby bunny looking up at me from underneath some stacked patio chairs.

Sprinting back into my house, I excitedly grabbed my camera and started filming. "Welcome to the world, my little friend. I hope you enjoy your stay. You'll have plenty of blueberries to eat."

One of my joys of Springtime is watching the mating dances of the various creatures who inhabit my backyard. I've had the fortune of welcoming many of the fruits of those dances into the world.

Not wanting to stress the little one out, I went back inside of my house. About an hour later, I went back outside to check on my new friend. It had moved. At first, I didn't see it anywhere. Then, I noticed that it had found a new, safer hiding spot.

This is certainly not the first critter to seek protection from the stone(d) wizard. Stay safe my little friend. I hope to see you around for a long time.

Your little friend looks cute.
I was wondering if it ran away while you were making videos and taking photos of it.
Cause here you have to be very careful so they don't zoom off into the wild while you are only trying to take cute photographs of them
I have to sneak around to get pictures of any animal cause they don't seem to find humans company quite welcoming.

Thank you. Yes, I am very careful when filming the animals so as not to scare/stress them out. It didn't run away while I was filming, only after I left. At one point an adult rabbit hopped up to me and I gave it some blueberries. After eating the blueberries, the baby rabbit hopped over to it and they nuzzled each other for a few seconds before chasing each other around the patio.

Thank you for those pictures and that narrative. What a cute little bunny. I wonder, are there eagles, or birds of prey around? That little critter looks vulnerable.

Yes, we have hawks and there is a fox who has been visiting the yard quite often lately. I haven't seen the little one since taking these pictures so I hope it has just found a safer place to hide out. Everyone has also been mowing their lawn lately so that could have scared it off.

@jayna, who curates the Inkwell with me, had one of her pets carried away by a raptor (she's pretty sure). I hope your little critter is safe and will visit your backyard again soon.

Oh no! That's awful. One of my neighbors has a very small dog. I've wondered if the hawk would ever go after it.
