Mob Psycho 100: The Tale of an Overpowered, Emotionally Repressed Teen

Well, I don't know if I told you guys this but I began my black clover journey. Actually,it started sometime in December last year and it literally just peaked for me some weeks ago. And now, I'm stuck in episode fifty something, random downloading episodes when I can. But I've hit pause on it now, hopefully I'd see someone to get the whole episodes from once I'm back in school.

And with that on pause,I began with something else. Something shorter. Mob Psycho. I mean 74 episodes is way less than a hundred and seventy something plus! It's funny cause I just saw a random sticker my friend sent to me and I asked what anime was that and he said Mob Psycho. And I just decided to watch it. Didn't even ask for a review or anything.

Oh well, here's a review about it. It was really good!

Imagine having god-tier psychic abilities but still struggling with the ultimate horror—talking to your crush. That’s the life of Shigeo Kageyama, aka Mob, the bowl-cut-wearing, emotionally constipated protagonist of Mob Psycho 100.

Mob is not your typical shonen hero. He doesn’t want to be the strongest, save the world, or flex his absurdly broken telekinetic powers. Nope. All he wants is to become a normal, well-adjusted kid who can hold a conversation without breaking into an existential crisis. But life has other plans—because when Mob’s emotions hit 100%, things explode. Literally.

To keep his powers in check (and, let’s be real, to give the audience some of the best animated fight sequences ever), Mob trains under Reigen Arataka. Now, Reigen is many things—a con artist, a self-proclaimed “psychic master,” and the king of bluffing his way through life—but an actual esper? Not even close. Yet, this man has somehow convinced Mob that he is the ultimate mentor, despite his psychic expertise being about as real as a three-dollar bill.

As Mob navigates middle school drama, friendship, and self-worth, he attracts the attention of actual psychics, shadowy organizations, and the occasional evil spirit with a grudge. Enter Claw, a group of megalomaniac espers who think world domination is a great idea. Mob, being the humble powerhouse he is, would rather just do his push-ups and impress his crush, Tsubomi. But when push comes to shove (or when he gets emotionally wrecked), Mob unleashes the kind of psychic carnage that makes you wonder if he’s secretly Goku’s long-lost cousin.

Along the way, he befriends the ghostly Dimple (a former evil spirit turned comic relief), joins the Body Improvement Club (because biceps > psychic powers), and slowly starts learning that emotions aren’t something to suppress—they’re part of what makes him human.

Mob Psycho 100 isn’t just an action-packed anime; it’s a beautifully animated emotional rollercoaster that juggles humor, heart, and absurdity with effortless charm. Whether it’s Reigen’s god-tier scamming skills, Mob’s occasional “Hulk Smash” moments, or the show’s ridiculously fluid animation, every episode leaves you either laughing, crying, or questioning your own life choices.

So, if you haven’t watched Mob Psycho 100 yet, do yourself a favor. Watch it. Experience peak animation, peak comedy, and peak existential crisis.

Like I said earlier,it was really good. And I hope you'll like it too.
Thanks for reading...

I only read Black Clover in manga. I've seen a lot of videos of it. The humor it has is what catches my attention the most. It looks well developed.

With respect to the episodes it is not so long. Definitely, it's like you say, I must do myself a favor hahahaha.

😂😂😂! But Black clover, the anime is really really good. Although the beginning episode are a bit of a bore and too Lou's as Asta's always shouting 😂😭.
I really really liked Mob Psycho though!😂

Me ha encantado tu reseña, pues es franca sin darnos espóiler. Me he reído con lo de emocionalmente estreñido y luego al compararlo con Goku, pero la verdad, has logrado tu cometido. Ahora la quiero ver

Not sure if it's the story, or the main character's look... but it reminds me of One Punch Man, at least bit! 😂

Btw, just from your review I'm sold: adding this to my to-watch list :) I just have to finish Demon Slayer first (as your profile pic reminds me !LOL)

I've just seen the first two seasons (not sure if the second one is considered a season, though... it's called "Mugen Train Arc") and I already have a favourite character, Kyojuro Rengoku... and a reason to almost cry whenever I watch a new episode, as I remember how they killed him so early 😭

That Mugen Train arc is an alternative version for the season 2 you watched... It's just like a summarized part in the movie... Keep watchinggggg, you'll love other characters asides Rengoku... I didn't like him cause he was always smiling!😭😂

Oh, Black Clover is really good. I just haven't watch the movie yet. But I already downloaded it on my phone. And I also finish watching Mob Psycho 100. All I can say to that is WHOA! And you know I almost didn't want to watch the last season of it coz I know it ends there. I just love every bit of it.

Awesome review! You perfectly captured the essence of Mob Psycho 100, blending brutal action with absurd humor and Mob's emotional development. It's true that he's not your typical shonen hero, and that's what makes him so special. The relationship between Mob and Reigen is one of the best teacher-student dynamics in anime, even though Reigen is more of a salesman than a true psychic mentor.

Do you plan to continue watching the second and third seasons of Mob Psycho 100 before returning to Black Clover? Because if you liked the first one, the subsequent ones are even better, with more growth for Mob and insanely animated scenes.

I really don't know... I mean I'll be in school some days from now and I have some books to read so I'm hitting pause on animes and watching normal cartoon movies... I don't even know,I want to do everything at the same time!😭

And thanks so much for commenting!

Interestingly, I recently rewatched this anime, and what a wonderful story it has. I not only love its unique animation and fluidity in the details, especially the battles; but also because of the way they develop the characters, especially the protagonist Mob. It's fantastic what one can take away from this anime, as entertaining as it clearly is.

Good review.
