A Wedding I won't Forget: Colors, Culture, and Love
This week's prompt got me thinking about the last time I went to a party. It has been a long time—oh, it's been years, I tell you for free. While thinking, I wanted to change my mind and go with the second topic, but on second thought, I would like to talk about my last party experience.
My husband at that time was my boyfriend had a wedding to attend with some of his friends and he asked me to come over with him since I hardly ever go out anyway, I was excited about the idea, particularly since I love being in the company of (some) of his friends.

Gladly, I had the color for the event, a beautiful lace gown my talented stylist friend had made for me a few months before that time, I wanted to go with headgear, but I didn't know how to tie one, the good thing for me was that, my sister was around with her friend who could help me tie a simple and classy one, and she did. I was ready in no time, looking like the fine Yoruba babe that I am.
My people came to pick me up, and when we got to the venue, we sat at the table reserved for the friends of the groom, I love traditional weddings, you know from the beat, to the language, and other things in-between, I mean what is there not to love? The ceremony started with the introduction of the groom and his friends, and in a proper Yoruba setting, he dropped a lot of money to show that he could properly take care of his new bride, he will be showing off his strength too, as the master of ceremony asked him to prostrate, jump up, and do other things to show how strong he is.
After the groom had shown off himself in terms of finances and strength and settled in, the next thing was to bring his bride to him. The beautiful bride walked in, looking all beautiful in her traditional attire and looking all glammed up for the event. I loved the aso-oke she had on, they screamed class and beauty as she danced in. According to culture, she doesn't need to show the presence of money in her account, she only needed to flaunt and enjoy herself, it is her day as we believe. She is also suppose to show how homely she can get, and how her husband will be properly taken care of.
With all the marital rites and duties concluded, both families properly welcoming one another, the exchange of vows and rings, and all the lovey-dovey moments that came with it, we went straight to the reception, and guys, it was a live band performance, you see, me and life-bands, we are five and six. I love Life Band performance to the moon and back, I was ready to dance and show the people there a little bit of my energy that only comes out once in a blue moon.
Then I saw a little cute baby that caught my attention, she had such lovely round cheeks that looked like puff puff, I don't know why I love babies with big cheeks, maybe because my cheeks are big too (smiles), but it is rather unfortunate that my baby didn't inherit that from me, maybe my next baby would though. The baby stretched her hands towards me and I quickly grabbed her tight, while the live band played, I danced so well carrying the baby in my hands and I greatly admired her so much, we both had a good time.
But while her Mum tried to grab her back, she held on to the upper part of my dress which was a net form, and it ripped, ah, thank goodness for my gele oo, I quickly unwrapped it and covered up myself, but it was so much fun, I won't forget the party and the baby in a hurry. It was time to go home, and my favorite of my husband's friends came to get me, holding my bag in one hand and my hand in the other, oh, it feels so good to be loved.
