The Reoccurring Trauma of Flooding in Lagos
Hello Sci-Fians,
Natural Disasters has always plagued men for generations, honestly I don't even know how to feel or what to say about all this occurrence that are out of our power.
Although Science and technology have tried to invent machines that can easily track out the possibility of some of this unfortunate natural disasters but majorly even with those invention we are still at mercy of it.
Examples of Natural disasters that still persist regardless of the interventions of inventions is flooding. Flooding in Lagos has been quite persistent.
The Government tried their best to curb the effects of flooding but whenever the rain starts, some parts of Lagos become massively affected by floods.
I remembered when I was teaching in Ajah (A part of Lagos state), the name of the place is Labora. I was staying in the school owned apartment that is close to the School.
The rains came like they always do, but this time, they were different. The water rose with a anger that was both mesmerizing and terrifying. Our community, which was situated in a low-lying area, was completely unprepared for the devastation that was about to unfold.
The rain fell for 3 days without stopping, everywhere was full of water, in fact we have to stay indoors for one complete week.
I know many people might probably think staying at home without coming outside for a week is something that is easy, but they are completely wrong, that experience is very traumatic.
In the town all activities was suspended. No school, no church, no movement, everywhere is Just like a river.
That was the worst flood I have experienced that has ever hit our community. It was like a nightmare that refused to end.
The Struggle to Survive
The Aftermath of flooding might be one of the Hardest things to experience.
The emotional toll of flooding is often overlooked, but it's a burden that lingers long after the waters recede. The feeling of losing everything, the uncertainty of what the future holds, and the trauma of reliving the experience in your mind – it's a weight that's hard to shake off. I've struggled with anxiety and fear, wondering when the next flood would come, and whether we would be prepared or not.
Although out Government is trying their best but efforts from their intervention but it leaves little to no relief or comfort.
In conclusion
While flooding is a recurring problem in Lagos, I am very optimistic that we can find ways to mitigate its impact. By working together, we can build resilience and adapt to the changing climate. For example: now those living in flood-prone areas like Ajah, Lekki , VI and others are urged to stay vigilant, stay informed, and stay safe. Don't wait until it's too late – take action now to protect yourself and your loved ones.
There are still parts that flooding still occurs in Lagos thanks for sharing
Yes o, if you go to some parts of Ajah presently, motor no fit pass
Flooding has really threatened many lives and properties
Yes, I just pray God Keeps protecting us and helping us to overcome 🙏
Despite how developed we are, we cannot stop natural disasters from occuring.
Honestly, this things are more than our power
,xmxi remember buying a new corporate shoe that cost a lot and that Morning rain fell, it was a monday morning, I had to enter the water with the shoe, honestly it wasn't funny
Omo, fuck up 😂,
I can imagine your reaction, I hope the shoe didn't later spoil
Flooding is very common in Nigeria. But still I think we are lucky because I hardly hear about other disasters.
An earthquake in Myanmar took thousands of lives
Yes o, we are so lucky in Nigeria, there are so many dangerous natural disasters that Nigeria don't have,
Thank God for Mercy
It is true that it is complicated, it is not easy, even if you see it that way, not getting out is not pretty at all, but the traumatic experience is ugly, I hope that you can prevent it in some way so that you are safer from these disasters.

You are right not just the government we too should take preventive steps together.
Honestly speaking, it is no more a story that Lagos flood is not an annual case, causing people to lose their properties, Loved ones and family.... However, it is a collaborative effort both the government and individual...
