Taxes this days is a topic most people always want to shy away from, most of the time a layman will always say taxes are being paid by the rich people, they don't know that one way or another everybody is actually paying taxes or so.
I remember the other time when the Government remove the stamp duty from every withdrawal transactions both in the banks and every fintech outlet everyone was happy smiling and thinking that was all from the Government not long the transactions fees increased and then the Government put a compulsory levy on Transfer transaction and every single transfer transaction above five thousand Naira (5,000) will be charged from everyone's transaction. This just give us a clear way in which the Government collects taxes from us indirectly.
Now let's dive into the discussion of the day:
Should the poor pay taxes as the same rate as the rich people?
Please Note that I rephrased the question.
Before we proceed let dive into some terms you need to understand.
What exactly is taxes
Tax can be defined as an amount of money that you have to pay to the government so that the Government can pay for public services.
Taxes are usually mandatory contributions which are levied on individuals or corporations by a government entity, this can be whether local government, regional government, or national government (federal). Tax revenues ( Or Money Gotten from people as tax) are used to finance government activities, including public works and services such as roads and schools, or programs such as Social Security and Medicare and a whole lot more.
Now that you've known that already should the poor people pay also the same percentage in accordance with their earnings as the rich people too?
My Answer is Yes, No body should be given any special privileges wether you are poor or Rich, according to your earnings you should be taxed, the same with the Rich folks, they should be an equal share too according to the earnings they make.
My reasons are quite simple, let's imagine a scenario whereby only the Rich pay taxes and then the poor people doesn't, there should be a kind of special treatment for the rich folks because they pay their taxes.
The Rich that pay their taxes should have the luxury of Good health ( excellent public and private healthcare)
Because they payed their taxes only them should be using the Roads, or perhaps because they pay their taxes the rich should have a better access to Great schools or better still because the rich pays their taxes they should have access to good security and last but not the least, they rich should all have access to Good security in the society.
Now you are getting the clear pictures now, this is not possible because everyone is enjoying the good roads the government constructed ( There was no special indication of which road is made for the rich or poor) everyone used the road all together. The attended the private schools and also enjoyed security all around.
This is the reason why I supported the fact that everyone should pay equally
