"Unexpected Acts of Kindness and Disappointments: My Experience."

Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is Unexpected Places and People, so let's dive in. When I saw today’s topic, it felt like the lady who paid for my transport fare somehow knew I would be writing about this. Let me tell you what happened this morning.

The lady I’m talking about is from my department (Sociology), but she’s in 400 level while I’m in 300 level. In a way she’s my senior and also our faculty vice president. Even though we often saw each other in the faculty, we had never greeted each other before. One day, I went to my regular customer’s shop to buy something, and I met her there too. I was surprised and asked if she lived in my area. She said yes, and the funny part was that she actually lives in the lodge right next to the shop. I was really surprised because her house is so close to mine.

This morning, I had three lectures, and my first lecture was at 7:00 AM. I woke up early, did my morning devotion, finished my chores, took my bath, and got ready for school. When I got to my junction, I saw three shuttles entering the filling station near my junction. I decided to wait for them because I didn’t want to take a tricycle. If I took a tricycle to the school gate, I would still need to take another one to reach my faculty. Since the school is now crowded, especially with the new 100-level students, getting a tricycle inside the school is difficult. That’s why I prefer to take a shuttle straight to my faculty. While waiting, I didn’t realise the lady was behind me until she tapped me. I turned around, and we greeted each other.

She asked if I had a 7:00 AM class, and I answered yes. After chatting for a bit, I asked if she also had a class, and she said no, that her class was at 9:00 AM. She said she was going to school early to submit her project paper to her supervisor. As we were talking, the first shuttle came, but the driver said he wasn’t going our way. While waiting for the other two shuttles, our school coaster bus stopped in front of us, so we decided to enter since the transport fare was the same as the shuttle. When we got in, the driver asked for payment, and to my surprise, the lady paid for both of us. I thought maybe she paid because the driver said he didn’t have change, so I planned to give her the money later. But when we got to the faculty and I tried to give her the money, she refused to take it and said she had paid for me. I insisted, but she still didn’t collect it. I had no choice but to thank her for her kind gesture because, honestly, I wasn’t expecting such kindness from her since we don’t really talk.

A Time When Someone I Thought Was Great Treated Me Poorly

This happened last week Wednesday when our course rep asked us to contribute ₦300 each for markers and dusters for our lectures. That day, I didn’t have any extra money with me because I wasn’t expecting to pay anything. I went to one of my friends and asked if she could lend me some money till the next day because she was the only one among my friends that was in school that day. I even explained to her that I only had money to get me home. But what she said next shocked me. She replied, "I don’t have any money; go and find where you can get it." I was surprised by her response because she had been in a similar situation before and helped her without hesitation. It made me realize that not everyone sees generosity the same way. Thankfully, another classmate I barely talk to offered to help, which showed me that kindness can come from unexpected places.

How Did It Affect Our Relationship?

This experience affected our relationship a lot. Since then, I’ve distanced myself from her because I realised she loves collecting from people but doesn’t like giving back. I’m not the only one who has noticed this about her; many people in our department also know how stingy she is.

Life is full of surprises and sometimes the most unexpected people show us kindness. Your story beautifully illustrates the power of small acts of generosity and how they can leave a lasting impression.

I love this.

Your stories are very interesting, sometimes life gives us surprises, and maybe that girl who didn't lend you the money was having a bad time in her life, you never know what happens in the inner world of each person.

I loved the energy and the way you write your blog, I felt like a student, as if I were a schoolmate with you =D, thank you very much.

Generosity often comes from people we don't expect, but people we trusted often disappoint us, but that can only serve as a lesson to us.
Thank you for sharing this amazing life story.

That lady is really so sweet, she is so kind ✨. She's still basically like a stranger right as you just greeted each other for a few times but she is already that sweet. On the other hand, that friend of you is kinda harsh but maybe she doesn't have any money on her either? But well, if ever she has and she doesn't really want to lend a hand then, thats too bad.

Your faculty vice president is so kind with what she did. It's good to spread love and build bridges.

As for your friend, I think she should have presented it to you in a better way if she wasn't having money to give you are that moment.

The little things that we sometimes overlook actually do matter. However, the moment we realize that life is in two phases, and as we have the good people, so do the bad ones exist, we wouldn't be shocked when we meet the bad ones.
